Yeah but they only listened to that because that kind of shyt is what was being promoted on TV and on the Radio they had no choice but to listen to it. If you asked a white "hip-hop fan" back then if he knew who KAM was, do you think he'd know who you were talking about?

I'm not talking about "sales" here, I'm talking about a genuine love and identification with the artform. How many white people back then listened to rap EXCLUSIVELY? Just because some white kid back then had a doggystyle CD mixed in with whatever else he was listening to at the time doesn't make him a part of the culture.

you asked "so where did all these dudes pop up from all of a sudden?". they grew up listening to hip-hop

all that other noise about KAM and culture is besides the point. there were 'casual fans' of all colors

Why is OP mentioning the rappers, who are probably genuine fans of Hip-Hop, and not the white collar industry/label cats, who could give a fukk about the culture and are profiting off of the destruction a lot of BLACK rappers are pushing, likely in more ways than one (if you want to look at the private prison angle like some do)?

LOL, no they didn't.

How many 'casual' fans of hip-hop were white? A LOT I bet.

what I'm saying is that when I was growing up none of the white people I met listened to rap like that...there may have been a few songs from certain artists that they liked, but rap wasn't really their "thing." Then starting around 2000 or so, all of a sudden I'm meeting white people my age or maybe 1-2 years younger who are self proclaimed "hip-hop heads," sorry but that shyt just screams phony to me.

look at an artist like justin timberlake, he gets a lot of love on here, but this dude started out with a boy band marketed towards teenaged white girls...but as soon as hip-hop/black music becomes the "in thing" and massively marketable, all of a sudden he's an R&B artist. and people eat that shyt up :wtf:

White people and Jews have been there from the beginning as far as putting it on wax and buying it, they just weren't rapping.

I'll tell what is strange, though; you get a lot of Black people hyping up below average rappers who are Black, yet crapping on White rappers who are above average. They've dropped the bar so low for Black rappers to be accepted, but raised it so high for White ones to be accepted.

Doing that only leads to one outcome: sooner or later, you'll get Black mainstream rappers who are wack and White mainstream rappers who are dope. Because the Black ones no longer have to fight for respect. And that'll be all it takes for Black rappers to be looked at as if they've fallen off.

Another scenario is the one happening right now; again, lowering the bar of lyricism for Black rappers who receive praise and sales leads to White rappers who aren't good lyricists to also prevail. And when there're enough White mainstream rappers for Whites to identify with, who do you think is gonna eat more?

But alas, there's no point in caring. If an MC is dope, he's dope.

Sadly, you are making a quality control argument about Hip Hop. The T/S is only concerned with who is being paid to perform it.

I'd be much happier if we owned rap and (barely) paid White teenagers to perform instead of White people owning rap and (barely) paying us to perform.

Hip Hop devolved into a minstrel show and now we're supposed to be upset that we aren't the only performers? :smh:

TI, Akon, Dre, & Puff are living the Dream.

BENZINO warned everyone about this and jeopardized The Source 10 years ago... that was a critical battle, and his loss lead to what's happening now.

an interesting example. all of those wack "boy bands", going back to New Kids on the Block, had a lot of R&B and hip-hop influence. wasn't N-Sync on Jive Records? "boy band" and "pop" aren't really genres, so what do you call that music?

Iunno if anybody posted the video from worldstar where Scarface was talking about this same exact issue a few weeks ago. Face said that Hip Hop is white now. Twenty years down the line, Hip Hop is gonna be like Rock Music. A musical art form pioneered by blacks that is completely dominated by white artists and fans. In the words of a different Scarface from the movie Half Baked, "I don't know why... but I BELIEVE him." :to::wow:

The same thing happened with Rock 'N Roll. Black folk created that shyt, made it dope. White folks went to the other side of the tracks to soak game and then straight stole the shyt.

In 20 years, all of the classic Hip Hop records from the 80's and 90's will be out of print, forgotten and ghettoized outside of the black community. Just like how no one outside of the hood has an in-depth knowledge of old school R&B, Jazz, Funk or Disco.

I'm from the hood. Although the hood where I'm from was more diverse and integrated than the average hood in America, I do not believe that white people born and raised in Generic Suburbia, USA can truly relate to the struggle presented in Hip Hop.

Now, there are Hip Hop songs and artists everyone can relate to. That is the reason why white people love positive early 90's Hip Hop like Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth, Pharcyde etc. They rapped about things everyone could relate to like falling in love, lusting after bad broads, not getting the girl, getting bullied in school, losing a loved one and just having fun.

But in no way shape or form can white folks from the burbs relate to living in the hood where bodies are dropping every other week, niccas sell crack for a living and it ain't even safe to walk down the street. :snoop: :whoa: Whites from the burbs listening to any type of hood rap is voyeurism, point blank.

I'm sorry, I'd rather hear other nationalities and races rap on TV on a mainstream level rather than whites. I'd much rather hear and see some Cambodians from East Oakland or some Samoans from Hunter's Point in Frisco on MTV spit about the struggle before I listen to some cracka from Seattle spitting Salvation Army rhymes. :wtb: :pacspit: But that will NEVER happen.
