this topic might’ve been “controversial” and worth discussing about 2-3 seasons ago :mjlol:

as a matter of fact I’m pretty sure this was a big thread topic 2-3 seasons ago :patrice:
There is a thread

Thought this was a continuation/re-up at first

Melo will be a first ballot HOF player. What he did at Syracuse was legendary, he has Olympic gold medals and beautiful NBA career statistics.

He didn't do anything on either the Nuggets or Knicks that merits his jersey being retired.

I'm looking forward to this book being closed for good.

No and the fans lobbying for people's jerseys to be retired or statues or HOF stuff, it's getting annoying.

If the Nuggets want to do that, like any franchise, that's their decision. One day, Orlando will retire Dwight Howard's #12. But, as recently as two years ago someone by the name of Hassani Gravett got to wear it in Orlando. Tobias Harris got #12 the year after Dwight left, and Dwight accomplished more in Orlando than Melo did in Denver.

BTW, Jokic wasn't the first guy post-Melo to wear #15. They gave that shyt to the Slovenian legend Anthony Randolph

Winning a title isn’t a prerequisite of getting your number retired. They should put both their names on the back. Melo brought that franchise from the dead in 03 made them relevant again. You absolutely retire the numbers for players like that.

:heh:

From the dead? They were less than a decade removed from the Mutumbo era when they got him. You're talking like they were Clippers of the 80s and 90s or the 90s Mavs ... that franchise wasn't in any risk of going out of business.

Never said they were going out of business. They were ass for a while before they got Melo. How the fukk did they get a high draft pick to take him? Cause them nikkas sucked!

They had a losing record from 95 till Melo got there. I know what the fukk I’m talking about.

Lol @ people saying they should retire both. That makes no sense. Do y'all even know what retiring a jersey means? It doesn't just mean hanging your name up in the rafters. It means no one ever plays with your number again. They clearly didn't do that for Melo. Can't retire it now. It would be meaningless.

Maybe the Olympic team can retire his jersey somehow out of respect.

Knicks retired the same number(15, interestingly enough)for Earl Monroe and dikk McGuire, so it's not like it is without precedent.

To be fair, it doesn't sound like the Nuggets and Melo are on great terms, they immediately issued out #15 after he left.

A case can be made that The Nuggets beating The Sonics remains the second biggest moment in Franchise history

It also looks like Melo has moved on from the nuggets and has officially become a knicks ambassador as he’s at every home game now.

The knicks must have plans to retire his jersey soon. I don’t think he deserves his jersey hung for NY though. But knicks is his best option now.
