Games aren’t even really competing with games anymore.

We all have access to endless entertainment of all kinds at our fingertips everyday, all day.

All forms of entertainment are competing for our time.

These price increases were always inevitable.

They were held back by the existence of DLC, subscriptions, microtransactions etc.

But at some point. Retail prices just need to increase.

As for hardware, with things being tight/competitive as they are it no longer makes good business sense to sell hardware at a loss or near cost, nore does it make any sense to make software exclusive to any one piece of hardware.

Gaming isn’t gonna “die”

Just will be a lot of change. A lot of things viewed as conventional wisdom or strategy are no longer that way.

Traditional Games media, culture and discourse have been resistive and in denial about our new future, but as we see, the new world is inevitable :wow:

You’re both probably right.

All I know for certain is the game industry has been dead for some time now.
The game industry started to struggle when the triple A games became the expected norm instead of the exception. In combination to live service games taking up time, money and interest, that those Triple A games would have.

On top of that the industry started to go down the same path as movies, they chased trends instead of letting devs be creative...BUT doing that isn't so easy now because games cost so much more to make.

I have been saying the industry was a bursting bubble since the start of the generation. Not dead just changing from what us 30+ year olds are use to.

The mindset of people and gamers are just different than how it has been for 30 plus years

IMO, it was clear that the indie scene and double A scene is what was seriously lacking on consoles and that's a big part of why so many straight to Triple A Ip's aren't flushed out and while they don't flop they don't make nearly enough money to be considered a success.

I can go on and on with this topic because truthfully I been talking about it for years now. It was just taken as "stanning" for certain consoles.

I hated astrobot? :unimpressed: I need you stop making up stuff breh. I said I've been Astrobot since the N64. That's it, meaning it's not some new amazing experience for me. I'm not far enough removed.

That also reinforces the point about double A games.

A non AAA game comes out, is getting rave critical reviews and yet you're the only one talking about "meh mario copycat" and making snide remarks about it. Only issue is it's a Sony game to you.

You sticking with 1080p? :mjlol:

Pcmaster race with a 1080p monitor and budget parts :pachaha:

Console games will render internally at 720p (or less, Series S) and stretch to 4K. :yeshrug: The size of the frame getting displayed isn't important so much as the quality is.

I'd happily take 120FPS over 4K resolution. :ehh:

Game reviews today are about as meaningless as when a game developers promises exclusive content after release.

The market will adjust itself. When Nvidia put out the RTX 4080 it didn't sell like they wanted so the 4080 Super came out at a reduced price Some people will be left behind as the prices go up but that's inevitable..
