Eminem was at his technical peak on The Eminem Show, but MMLP is definitely his defining work. Overall, his best tape.

Who Knew, I'm Back, and Drug Ballad are my favorite non-singles. Eminem's social commentary got lost on a lot of ears.
It's because even the dudes that SAY they listen to hip hop don't really listen to hip hop

Whether its the pop fans fronting or the fake hip hop heads fronting, the result is the same, ignorance of a great album with actual thought provoking music.

rap music is nothing without basslines, this track reminded me why most beats sound flat these days.. it requires all the busy sounds and synths to try and compensate, this song barely had a beat just a basslines and drums, with a spraycan soundeffect

Because they are trying to de-emphasize the words in rap now...when the "music" and even the rappers to an extent were always about support. This is why "campaign speech" didn't really have a beat, just what amounts to sound effects, he wanted to be heard, not just coast on some shyt you can "vibe" to.

I thought he was one helluva lyricist.

That was my first impression.Thought he was gifted at flipping words.

A real technician.

But I thought the same thing when I first heard The Slim Shady LP.

Won't front, I dismissed him strictly because he was white.

Had to respect the dude:ehh:
Brain Damage is an underrated storytelling track. One of my favorites from that album, when the beat slows down during the hook. :wow:

Plus I was going through one of the worst periods in my life at that time.

I was a lil broke dusty nicca.

But yeah.....The first time I really gave my ear to Em, I was about to go on this long bus ride

and my cousin was kind enough to offer me his CD Walkman. It was totally spur of the moment on his part.

Dreading the thought of a long, boring bus ride...I accepted his offer.

I dap him up and head to the bus stop.

Open the CD Walkman and saw this

Once I got about 15 mins into my bus ride, I said fukk it "Let me check this shyt out"

Ended up playing this shyt like 10x in a row

Got to this

and was thinking"I'm actually feeling this white dude:merchant:"

And then this shyt

Had to respect the dude:ehh:
