If the Yankees actually traded for Nico Hoerner, I would expect he remains at SS.

Volpe moves to 2B and Jazz over to 3B.

But NYY would have to light a fire under George Lombard Jr to be ready to take the SS job in 2027.

You can’t make a trade like that, move Volpe to 2B, then move him back to SS once Hoerner becomes a free agent.

Pittsburgh makes the playoffs long before 29 if they trade Skenes now. A Juan Soto type haul in return should keep the fans from revolting too much.

All that deferred money will be outlawed during the lockout. I don't think we'll ever get a cap unless the league makes a huge concession like limiting the amount of years before players can hit free agency for example, Juan Soto hits free agency after 3 years instead of 6.

Yea I don't think there's gonna be a cap neither, but I can definitely see a floor. And if teams don't hit that floor, then that's cool... just no revenue sharing for you.

In the NHL, players automatically become unrestricted free agents after they turn 27 or seven seasons played, whichever comes first. They get three year rookie deals when they first start and become RFAs afterwards. You almost never see other teams sign RFAs because the cost is so high for the best players but it's possible.

I'd also be in favor of a limit on contract length. NO ONE is excited when these guys sign 10+ year contracts. Everyone knows the backend is gonna be bad.

The current MLB system sucks and everyone knows it.
