It's fukked up cause the nikkas that actually treat battlerap how it should be treated never get the props they deserve.

Hollow doesn't duck battles. Always shows up yet mainstream fans run with Mook being the goat :rudy:

Clips half asses 70/80% of his battles yet mainstream fans make excuses for him 70/80% of the time

Danny is the one never choking. flying fans in to see his battles. always spitting new verses. Making blogs, posting, talking to the fans.
yet nikkas wanna clown Danny all day when did bad business (even tho Danny put himself in that position).
Rex goes around spitting mixtape verses back2back and fukks up battles by bytching about time

Shyt is weird
Hollow half asses battles and only battles twice a year too though. :dwillhuh: I'm not sure how he became the Coli people's champ.

I do agree Hollow is probably the goat

Clips... he's just a likable dude. Caters to the mainstream. If you're not all the way into battle rap but fukk with it a little bit its easy to big up Clips and keep it moving. Same way casual NBA fans like certain players but aren't watching every game. It is what it is :manny:

Myers just isn't that good. He can't pace himself to save his life. For a guy thats a pretty good writer his delivery sets him back tremendously. He's also too transparent if you ask me. making blogs, posting, talking to the fans has diminishing returns after a certain point. I know it's the social media era, but there should still be a mystique. Look at how a guy like Goodz conducts himself versus Danny Myers. You gotta act like a celebrity, at least on a small scale. Posting your phone number on twitter and grabbing beers with anybody that wants to hang out after the battle ain't the wave

Rex is a diva, he was half decent versus T-top but thats all the credit he's gotten lately. I don't think he has any fans left. Nobody likes him here, he was getting booed so bad against Clips they had to mute the crowd audio, youtube comments are anti-Rex, etc. Like I've said before my guess is he's pretty cheap to book and Smack just thinks of him as fodder at this point. To use Rex as an example as somebody with clout or following in the battle rap game at this point is a weak argument

Just give us cliff notes I dont even wanna hear him voice his bullshyt excuse why he rapping like a poorman's Lux....it's 0 logic behind anybody mimicking the next person that hard.
He said he thinks people overstate how much he sounds like Lux and the hosts said its more their delivery and he agreed with that. He said he's more unapologetically pro black and Lux approach is way different. He said people are crazy saying he could beat Lux though and said he doesn't think he can match Lux pen wise. He said it's disrespectful to Lux to compare him to Lux but said he does do things Lux doesn't do but he doesn't want to be disrespect Lux's craft and point them out, but at the same time he wants his respect.

Rex is still a big name and yes he does have clout. I don't believe he's inexpensive at all, he sells tickets. He's the face of Dot Mob as we now know it, realistically Mook isn't communicating with Tay Roc, Real Deal, Daylyt, Dot, Chayna Ashley, K-Shine etc on a semi regular basis. A lot of people in Dot Mob are big factors in the battle rap game. No one wants to believe that Rex has a hand in their successes, but these people will all tell you from their own mouths in their interviews.

If you have anything concrete that would lead you to believe Rex isn't a big name, I'd like to hear it. If you take things off of a battle rap stage, damn near all the big names in battle rap except for Hollow consistently express that they have a lot of respect for Rex. Internet message boards have never been a good indicator of his popularity. His style is somewhat outdated to a lot of internet heavy battle rap fans, and it's been that way since Smack URL started. I live in Harlem, the guys that Rex rolls with from 112th play the block all day. Not saying they are super money getters, some of them could just be on some lazy derelict shyt. But they are the types that will be in the barbershop arguing over some rap shyt, not on Youtube or a forum.

Has anyone else besides Rex done Summer Madness ALL 5 YEARS?

the internet is basically the worst indicator of popularity.

I feel what you're saying.

It's the internet era though. fans outside of internet... dudes on the block all day and arguing in barber shops are the exception, not the norm. For every cat that fukks with Rex in harlem there's twenty on youtube that think he's outdated and sucks. I was at NOME 5, majority of cats I was talking to in the crowd seemed like they fell into the latter group, not OGs running around harlem. I'm not convinced Rex is selling tickets, I'm just not

It kinda reminds me of pro wrestling. Fifteen/ twenty years ago you used to have the marks and smart marks. The marks were the ones who really weren't on the internet much and followed the storyline, some even thought it was real. The smart marks were online reading the dirt sheets, spoilers and behind the scenes stuff. Now EVERY wrestling fan is a smart mark. Everybody is on the internet. I don't think the dynamic in battle rap is terribly different.

If you watch T-Top first round against Rex, Top even says the fans told him he was gonna wash Rex. Talks about Rex using mixtape verses, outdated style etc. It's just common knowledge at this point. Lets not forget all the RIP Rex memes going around after Clips killed him.

I generally don't listen, but I was curious if BDot was going to play stupid on the whole deal. Your summary is unbiased and pretty much spot on.

He acknowledged the comparison, but pointed out that his content and angles are different (which at least a couple people said in here). Doesn't seem to have any thoughts about battling Lux.. Doesn't even like speaking on the differences because he doesn't want to be perceived as throwing shots. Also said he's going to take the criticism and see what adjustments he can make.

He also recognized that his style/content might not translate well to the URL and says he needs specific types of opponents to set up a good stage for delivering his type of content. He won't take just anyone to get a shot on URL... Doesn't plan on changing his content drastically (ie gun bars etc) to fit the platform.

Said his dream matchup is Th3Saga (didn't someone on here suggest that?) and doesn't know what PG he wants to battle.

Overall, seemed humble, level-headed. Don't think we'll see a Gjonaj repeat.
