I have no idea what gave you the impression that URL of all companies would be straight and proper. In the event and promotions business side of things, no people can really take URL seriously, smack is drunk at his own event and they have shytty time management. They can't even clear the stage at their own event. Theres reasons why they have to keep switching venues. Good promotion companies dont ever have to do that.

My feeling came from how many good business people seem to show at the events, but on second thought, those people are really doing URL a favor by being there and agreeing to be named co-host or to be on camera. The venue switching I attribute partially to the type of crowd these things attract and the general nature of a battle. If I owned a hall or a stage, I'd be weary as fukk hosting a rap battle.. much moreso than a concert or small show. The time management piece seems to be an issue in every corner of live show business (I haven't been to a live show in my life where the main act went on when they were scheduled to go on).

So my impression was probably based on their apparent success, and the fact that they are still considered "the" stage to win on. I probably let my idea of what the top dog *should* be and let the evidence (mainly the popularity and hunger to be featured on URL stages) color my perception early.

Not really a lot of good business people coming through URL events like that. just people who know and support battle rap. How many dudes that came to URL events went to total slaughter? The venue switching isnt really the crowd, UW and RBE didnt have problems getting venues its how URL does things that makes venues not want to deal with them. Artist go on late in live shows for a multitude of reasons, its usually the artist only having a 45 minute set but the place being booked for 5-6 hours but venues dont care cause they're going to close when they're going to close whether you're done or not but if you book a midday event and start bleeding into the night events time they're going to charge you and kick you out.

URL is only "the" stage to win all these other leagues are dumber than they are. For instance, if this EBL guy has his own league, why is he fronting URL the money to have their events? URL is really on top by default. If KOTD ever made a real run at that URL/Hood crowd they'd be a problem just off presentation and business handling.

Not a popular opinion around here, but I think I'd prefer KOTD to take the throne.

I never understood why Smack hasn't started to phase himself out as the face of URL.

Maybe I'm too business minded or whatever, but URL can't be branded with Smack's face forever. Even Vince McMahon retired "Mr. McMahon" and let other people play that role.

Nitpicking, but it causes a problem because the URL can't expand the way they should. I dont even think they actually want to expand, but they should. The Arizona event put a lot of their problems on front street. If Smack isn't there its not a "real" URL battle, Beasley had nothing in writing with Teddy Grizzle allowing him to sell the footage to KOTD after branding it as Smack, having to use the same "top tiers" at every event to draw a door, etc. etc.

Smack is doing great right now but like Clips said on AFR, the top tiers are in their 30's. They aren't going to rap forever. Smack can't be a 50 year old drunk man on stage. You'll eventually get kicked out every good venue in NY if your events keep going 7+ hours etc. etc.

Organik does horrible business as well.

Do you something was different because he's white?
No, nothing to do with the race shyt. It's more because I feel like the URL/Smack situation is narrow and getting narrower. You just said it on the previous post, the main events are the same group of dudes shuffled. The PG's just don't seem to be panning out (or maybe I'm impatient), and the URL stage doesn't seem to travel at all (stays in one part of the country pretty exclusively).

I don't know much about Organik's business practices, so if/when I learn I may feel differently, but the way KOTD travels everywhere and take risks with cards (yes, some flop) seems to be more future-proof.

All that said, I don't think one can survive without the other... not until RBE or UW takes that last step up.

URL will survive just fine without KOTD. They don''t ever use their battlers.

Legit question: Do you think that without the say, #2 and #3 leagues, that some of the main draw battlers would still be at it?

I know nikkas don't generally live off battle rap, but the URL checks would become pretty sparse when there are only a few events a year and not every single battler gets every even.

I really dont want anyone to have the "throne" but you need legit competition to make you step your game up. Its pretty much wrestling, when WCW was around WWF put out most of their greatest stuff and vice versa. Then when WCW was gone they started putting out bullshyt. URL doesnt have a WCW and thats why they do a bunch of the bullshyt they do.

No, but I don't know for sure. There was really no 2nd league (I guess you can say Grindtime but most of the top tiers on URL homegrown guys only battled on there once or never) the first 3 years of URL and nobody stopped. Hitman, Math, Surf, Suge, Yung Ill, Clips, Tay Roc, Mook, Lux, Goodz, never battled anywhere really but URL/Smack the first 3 years and URL was doing great.

Now it may not have lasted like that, you have a point. If there weren't other outlets they'd probably just get a regular job and battle more sparingly, then again that might have been for the best.
