I saw this video posted on another forum and found it interesting. It doesn't seem like that long ago, but this is history now, the era has clearly changed. All these big personalities fighting for some camera time. Now there's a million battlers and tons of camera people to record them.
Verb might really be the Mike Tyson of battle rap, I don't think anybody really wanted it with him around this time. This was the Verb that was gunning for Mook. I wonder how different the battle world would be if Verb vs Mook happened back then.
Some random thoughts about this old vid
Nym Lo's verse is way too long, it doesn't end until like the 4:45 mark. I always felt like he has the persona to be better known, but his raps are barely above average.
Verb was in NYC talking his shyt, that aspect of his contribution to the Midwest Movement is severely underrated. Verb was the one stirring the pot.
Dot Mobb & NYB seemed to be cool at this time.
You see Surf in this video behind Mook, looking like he's extremely happy to be there.
Hitman did his thing in the cipher too, but Verb's energy made them all more comfortable there.

This clip just makes me think of how bad O-Red did Showoff.
Why did Red do that to Showoff? Showoff was a bit overeager and misguided, but he was a good kid. This dude Showoff sat down longer than Prez Mafia at this point.

I love going back and watching videos like these. That old feel is way gone but it’s actually now a part of Hip Hop History that I appreciate just as much as I do other periods in time of regular Rap.
This was probably my favorite Verb freestyle video from back in the day. I wonder what happened to the light skin guy that was always around Verb back then
