I finally got around to watching Death of a Unicorn, which continues this year's trend of horror comedies that aren't bad enough to criticize but good enough to praise. It's fine for passing the time, but nothing to rush to watch (unless you're a big fan of unicorns).
A father and daughter accidentally hit and kill a unicorn while en route to a weekend retreat, where his billionaire boss seeks to exploit the creature's miraculous curative properties.
The humor was good enough for some chuckles, but rarely on some true "cracking up" vibes. There's no actual horror, unless you count gory kills, which were over the top to the point of being the movie's funniest moments. The plot is fine with some character growth for Paul Rudd and his relationship with his daughter, but you know this story.
The unicorn really is the draw. We get a surprisingly creative mix of unicorn kills and fun lore unique to the creature. So, there's originality to an extent. But considering the cast and the creative premise, this kinda disappointed me. It's nothing special.
