Gave a shot to this budget Found Footage movie, and I didn't hate it. Mister Creep is only an hour and five minutes, but has some moments that I liked.

Three college students stumble upon a secret television broadcast of a deceased serial killer and search for its location.

Disclaimer: It's budget horror through and through. The acting isn't great, there's a lot of goofy decision-making, and it wears its influences on its sleeves so hard that it's flirting with stealing. There's obvious Jigsaw influence, and the ending sequence is pretty blatant in redoing the Blair Witch's iconic closing sequence.

But it's got a short run time and had a couple of scenes that I actually appreciated.

Granted, a lot of it is mid. But there are a couple of creative bits I liked:
The old creepy lady part is pretty fun, riding a lil It inspiration. Then there's a scene where the group watches an old interrogation video, and the killer looks into the camera and name-drops a character. It's a simple bit, but I liked it.

Considering it's just an hour long...I wasn't mad at it. There's just enough good to warrant a shout-out. It's on Tubi, so easy enough to peep.

5 out of 10

AMC has a horror movie preview in some theaters on Monday, and it's showing near me. They listed the run time, and it just so happens to be an exact match for Together...so I'm really hoping I get a sneak peak at it. I'll be hype if it's any of Weapons, Bring Her Back, or Together. But any horror will do, yall know me.

Got free tickets for mystery movie too today & was tryna figure shyt out based on da runtime. I wouldn't mind if it's Together.

Alright, byke from my early screening. This one will prolly sit with me for awhile. Just under 2 hours, slow burn or course.

Sally Hawkins plays grief personified (and creepy) really well. bytch cuckoo for coco puffs from start to finish, but in a very understated way at times.

The lil mf Oliver is where they go full on folk horror as far as mixing supernatural elements with ritualistic aspects that manifest in a few scenes that will def leave you squeamish. There is one scene in particular you may have to turn away from. My whole theater hit the :whoa:

Big Bro Andy did what he came to do even tho I felt like his descent could've been fleshed out more. Every bit of a tragic hero/martyr :ehh:

Not really jump scare heavy. Just a roller coaster of building dread, tension, wit sum ritual shyt mixed in.

All in all, it was solid. Not mad at all.

The audacity to double down on that table after fukkin’ his teeth up reminded me of those hard-to-watch Ren and Stimpy bits, lol. Flesh peeling back like tender rib meat straight off the bone. shyt is burned into my memory. :picard:

Sally’s so good in this though. Masterfully manipulative to the point where I wanted comeuppance like no other for the character, yet that final shot of her and the daughter’s body got me. I felt for her there.

Didn’t think I’d be feeling such way when she ran over those poor souls earlier, but I dunno…seeing any character in a battle with grief will always strike a chord with me. Just all too real.

shyt cut very deep. Gave it a 4/5, same as Talk to Me. I may bump it up someday. The Philippous got a knack for crafting up endings that will stay with the audience.

Hawkins really did her thing here. It’s honestly what I wanted for Grant in Heretic. A bomb ass script that complements a fire performance.

Thats about right where I had it was at a 4/5, with possibility for an increase ova time the more it sits with me, and like I said, it will sit with me...

I'll never look at a knife the same again

Seeing dat shyt break thru da skin like that :picard:

I knew Andy & the case worker prolly weren't gonna make it to the car but I didn't think they were gonna go out like that + I didn't think Andy was gonna catch it too. All da Yung creh wanted to do was protect/shield Piper & I bet he died feeling like he failed smh.

Sally was def showin' her ass tho, in a real way. It's like you can tell she used to be a good mom/counselor at some point but just got stuck in da past once u know wat happened.

I also wanna know where Dem tapes came from :picard:

Yeah, I’m liking this more with Sally’s character being a representation of how loss can straight up change a person for the worst, mentally. We saw this with Sophie Wilde in Talk to Me, but not to this extent.

Your last note was one of the creepiest things about the movie to me. Kept things nice and ambiguous.

The worlds in their films so far share similarities stylistically and thematically. While I’m not really begging for it, I wouldn’t be surprised if they dropped a little easter egg at some point that teases connection within these stories.

I'm joining the chorus of praise for Bring Her Back, which felt particularly refreshing in a year where all my top horror movies have been horror comedies. This is the first "capital H" Horror movie that I found to be really good. It goes to a dark world and stays there. The Woman in the Yard is the only other horror movie that I liked that wasn't light and funny as opposed to ominous and tense.

Speaking of tension. The Philipou brothers have mastered that muscle-tightening, recoil kinda horror. They don't need jump scares, they just make you watch something nasty and your body tightens up because of how painful or gross the scene is. The bonus, is that on the few jump scares that are in this movie, everyone around me JUMPED...aggressively.

Beyond the scares and horror, I loved the storytelling. It's a slow burn, but it invests you in the characters and their relationship. They tell you a lot without saying anything. It's "show don't tell" to the max, so you never need "grapefruit" explained. It just comes across.

I also love how much of this movie is left to the viewer's imagination, while giving you all the pieces to tell a complete narrative. The ambiguity isn't so extreme that you can't see a clear coherent picture (that was the problem with Woman in the Yard). But there's enough left for you to fill in blanks with different theories. The rituals, the origins, and even some of the characters' backstories give you enough to work with but leave room for you to go back explore more closely on rewatches.

Man...this ish was good. 8.5 out of 10, and the best "scary" horror movie to drop so far, though I'm hopeful one of the other contenders passes it up (Weapons has me very hopeful).
