I like this. Its an original take on religion and what it means to be caught up in the hooplah of it all while going through your own spiral :ehh:

Bih was nutso. First ya find da Lord, then ya rebuke & go thru the quickest heaux phase ever, then take ya penance with some homemade shoe tacks :picard:

Clarke's performance was on point. The last frame really sold it though.

6.5-7ish
I'm a fan of the "obsessed MC" genre of horror, where their obsession causes them to crash out eventually. Saint Maud is one of the better versions, because the fanaticism and church stuff is inherently creepy to me. That last frame really is one of the most memorable in any recent horror movie imo.

I feel like Saint Maud pairs well with Censor. I didn't like Stop Motion as much, but it fits too imo.

And yeah, the older I get, the more I gravitate toward this brand of psychological horror, where the "monster" isn’t some supernatural creature, but the unraveling within. One of the main reasons why I fukked with Bring Her Back from this year.

This (Censor) was a solid debut though. Enid was out here trippin', trippin' :picard:

By the time they got to the VHS pastel portion of the spiral, they had me all over the place, lol. Def on par/up there with Saint Maud tho. I'm not mad at it.

Now, thank you for the Whiskey. I'll see myself out

28 Years Later:lupe:

...now I've seen every zombie part that can't be unseen:damn:

They threw everything but the kitchen sink in this FUKKERY:dead:

It was good, it kind of reminded me of 'Apocalypse Now' in spots. But the ending was weird and abrupt. I'm getting tired of these "to be continued...." endings in Hollywood. Everyone is doing it now.

Talking about Saint Maud and Censor got me to dive into my favorite Oedipal horror movie in recent history...

I feel like 90% of the obsessive MC horror movies feature a female lead, but this one's got a male widower whose mourning the loss of his wife and gets wrapped up investigating a series of broadcast intrusions that no one could find the origin to. It's 40% investigation, 40% conversations about conspiracy and hoax, 10% creepy robot videos, and 10% action...but I love it. I think the actors all kill it, and the mystery hits the binary that these tense horrors need (first we get the mystery that's being investigated and on the other side we learn what the MC's past is hiding or running from).

The other appeal for me is that this movie is clearly drawing inspiration from sources I have interest in. Particularly, the Max Headroom incident:

It's also got a healthy mix of genres I like. There's analog horror in the videos, noir in the investigation, and it goes full psychological horror by the ending. There's enough ambiguity for people to have theory discussions but enough of a bread trail for a lot of people to land in a handful of similar buckets of interpretation.

I've posted about Broadcast Signal Intrusion a bunch of times, because I feel it's underrated and a bit of a hidden gem. It's well-crafted and every time I watch it, I get stuck on different theories and questions.
