I really liked the film 'Haunt' directed by Woods and Beck of 'A Quiet Place' and 'Heretic' fame. They really make the most of a small budget and unknown actors. I liked the premise so I said what the hell. A bunch of college kids go out to the club on Halloween but decide to venture to a haunted house walkthrough to end the night. I hate being in close quarters so some of these scenes had me fukked up lol. I enjoyed this.
It's one of my favorite Halloween horror movies. I watch it just about every October. It really captures the vibe of visiting a random haunt on the first walk-through, and most of the cast is likeable which adds to the tension when things get frantic.

Here are upcoming horror movies releasing on VOD or Streaming in October. Sometimes there's a hidden gem in the bunch like Beezel, Mr Crocket, or No One Will Save You.

I used the summaries from UpcomingHorrorMovies.com. I did a TLDR for each one after watching the trailers incase you don't want to be spoiled by them.
I bolded the titles that seem interesting to me.

Streaming

October 8, 2025

As it appears matters can’t get any worse in their lives, they begin to encounter soul-shaking supernatural forces and go from fighting one another to fighting for their lives. The key to survival lies within their ability to conquer their darkest moments with courage and love.

TLDR: A couple wants to separate, but something in their home is making them *movie title*. I’ll probably check it out because Hulu delivered another fun black horror movie last year with Mr. Crocket.

She discovers that the building is haunted by a serial killer who brutally murdered and dismembered his victims there over half a century earlier. Now that he's marked Liana and her friends as his next victims, they have to find a way to escape the ghost's deadly grasp before they lose their own body parts.

TLDR: Not really sure. Maybe a supernatural slasher, like if Charles Lee Ray had more voodoo powers than possession.

Indonesian horror is so much damned fun. If you're okay with subtitles, my favorite concept for a horror movie just dropped on Screambox, and it's called The Draft!

It's a "the less you know going in, the better" kind of film. But it's also subtitled and on a service that not everyone has. So, I'ma do spoilers in spoilers, slowly explaining the premise. Stop where it gets your attention, and watch the movie instead...this is the sort of budget horror that really deserves the views and clicks. Here's the premise from IMDB

5 typical college students spend their weekend in a typical old villa only to find that they have to survive in a battle of wits against an absolute all-mighty all-powerful terror that is seemingly undefeated. Fight for your fate!.

Within the first 20 mins, things get chaotic. Within a half-hour you get a decent explanation of what's happening. The rest of the movie plays with its premise in ways that are surprising and can take things in unexpected directions at the drop of a dime. Need more? Alright, I'll get into the premise now...enter at your own risk

The characters quickly realize that they've been written into a horror script. They all fill tropes, Cabin the Woods style, and the writer has surrounded them with typical horror settings. But the thing is...

It must be a rough draft of the script. Because the settings leave a bunch of options open for where the plot is supposed to go, and when the characters try to escape, the writer has used really lazy obstacles to keep them trapped. Since it's a draft...

The writer can tear out a page of the plot, and everyone gets pulled back to a previous plot point. Then the settings might be changed to fit a new direction for the story. Maybe they were initially in a murder mystery, but now it's a supernatural attacker. If they figure out how to avoid a plot point, the writer will throw out a page and create new obstacles or threats.

but...

Since this is a very lazy writer, he's predictable. So, the characters can use plot contrivances to their advantage. If it's a zombie movie, then there must be guns somewhere and those guns are gonna be in the most obvious place possible :mjlol:

So, it's now a battle between the characters and the writer's imagination. Even though the writer has every option possible, he still has to make a script that the producers are willing the film (this is also why the setting doesn't change too much, the producers have already picked their location). That means, the characters have to force the writer's story into a corner so that he must revise the script.

It's genuinely one of the most creative horror movies I've watched in ages. It's meta in the vein of Scream or Cabin in the Woods; but the budget forces it to lean much more into the campy aspects. At least for me, that paid off by making the comedy hit.

Two enthusiastic thumbs up for this joint. But be aware that it's a pure horror-comedy. Just a good one, thanks to a clever premise.

which haunt? 2019 or 2014? I’m gonna give this a try. Tried the outwaters and I hated the direction it went. I was tuned in until it took a turn to what I didn’t expect from this movie and end up not even finishing it…. I hardly ever not finish movies but I couldn’t with the dumb shyt

I wasn't a fan of Outwaters either. I know a decent amount of found footage heads that give it respect and love, but the visuals kinda flopped for me outside of one or two moments.

The Haunt I like is 2019

It's not doing anything too crazy. It's just a basic "college kids go to the wrong place at the wrong time and try to survive while getting picked off" setup. But it's shot well and the haunted house setting is perfect for the season.

I trust your opinions so far. You been spot on to the stuff I‘m rocking with and at the moment, the haunt might fit the occasion. outwaters was just weird to me. if it would have landed with something spiritual taking place but the weird noises, can’t see shyt, the snakes.. it turned from horror to just a weird mess for me.
