Rarely does the dopest, "purest" music dominate the scene anywhere. Atlanta is on top of the mainstream but hardly any of the best Hip-Hop makes it very far out of here. If NYC had Atlanta's mainstream pull now, it would probably just put cats like Desiigner on Young Thug's level and continue to provide little substance.

This is what my theory refers to. It's about pull. Atlanta for nearly 15 years has been able to put anything on national radio and make it a hit. Laffy Taffy!?!? Never liked it then, don't like it now but D4L has got 100 number one hit and Drake doesn't. :russ:
Seriously. :stopitslime:

Ironically, once NY conceded mainstream pull to Atlanta hip-hop album sales dropped drastically. Def Jam hired the dude who built Atlanta's scene. LA Reid.

Most known nyc rappers are old af like hov or Nas. They're not captivating the youth...the youth all follow the Internet/atl/chi scenes so they don't seem like they're from nyc when they actual gain popularity.

This isnt the only reason but one of the factors.

Great. Once they're in the offices and shaking hands with the bosses of this music game then NY will back. My theory is since NY lost that and powers been transferred to Atlanta, it's why NY is stagnant from a mainstream standpoint. Just a theory.
Those guys aren't even that big HERE. It's not as if we're the Bay Area and have all this music that we only like that nobody else likes.

Beverage Fridge, 3rd Row!!
the taste makers have just figured how to used their influence in the past 1-2 years and theyre still working out how to really promote shyt

the producer thing is a big part also. in the 90s we had like 15-20 amazing producers that helped artists craft great PROJECTS.

there a couple cool producers like Frankie P & V Don but they mostly do underground type shyt

and all the artists that are buzzing in the city now are not stars. some of them make cool songs but I dont see any of them really moving units or selling out shows on a mass scale

To destroy a movement that is empowering black people as well as enriching them with culture and spoils. You kill the head, not the body. They killed the head to contain the prominence that it was creating.

The trendsetters, tastemakers and influencers in NY aren't being ran by black people. Ebro, Rosenberg, that Latina chick who undeservingly got a a thread in TLR. Look how Def Jam's been gutted. No major hip-hop labels in NY. The Breakfast Club does not break records just have interviews and host parties. NY you all gotta get black people back in power of hip-hop as far as who says who's hot, who drops, who sell out in stores. Latino people are alright but they don't know hip-hop and rap like we do.

NY and East Coast folks, give us insight, please.

Why aren't you happy that the south is winning?

I grew up on east coast stuff. I just started liking southern music. Mainly because I drink now. :yeshrug: I can't listen to thus shyt with sober mind outside of WATTBA. Mainly due to Drake.

Plus, My music producer dreams' been crushed with this trap craze.

Hate to tell you, but the North/West took over the game 2 years ago. The south ain't no better then the East Coast at this point, the south has plenty of artist, but none of them are putting out chart topping albums. Except Gates, and his album was garbage. Oh yeah and Future, but most of the people that I find listen to Future, are dikk riders, white boys, and lean heads/dope boys.

Everybody else pretty much agrees dude's music is garbage, mainly cause he doesn't enunciate

I'm an east coast head. I wanted to know his thoughts.
