The over-commercialization of Hip-Hop that began around 97, 98.

You started getting the big budget videos with rappers on yachts they didn't own, driving luxury rentals, sipping Cristal. This is when excess and wealth started to dominate the content of the music ("Bling Bling", "Money Cash Hoes"', etc.) and artistic identity started to matter less.

Hip-Hop has been on a slippery slope ever since.

old head told me diddy ruined hip hop and is responsible for what it is now:yeshrug:

I think all those albums are classics (Soul Food maybe not). But not GOAT contenders. They just aren't in the conversation with Illmatic, Paid in Full, Chronic, It Takes a Nation, etc.
I think The Diary and Atliens are the closest based on consensus (which is all that matters for this type of thing).

oh, you put it that way............... :wtb::to:

@SirBiatch you've got some nerve fronting in here like you weren't being briefed on three six Mafia appreciation thread made two weeks ago. Really, the nikka in your Avi is a perfect example of the impact classic southern music has had on the world.

Really nikka? I just listened to the new pimp album and they actually have Rocky a feature on the record.

Change your Avi. The fact that you would even ignore some of the game you were put onto and that thread and come in here fronting like the south doesn't have just as many classics if not more is boofonery

I bet you never heard The Diary or Soul Food. Leave the thread.

The Diary :mindblown:

It's one of the greatest hip hop albums of all time

Coming Out Hard and Mystic Stylez were regional/local albums. Hip hop fans outside of the South did not know about these albums.
UGK made very little splash when it came out.
The other ones I addressed.
I acknowledge your point about Liquid Swords. It isn't a consensus GOAT contender album.
You really think The Chronic and Mystic Stylez are held in the same regard across the board by all knowledgeable heads?

You really want to revisit those classic albums in 2015 with that kind of context given the title and purpose of this thread?

Breh I listed more than two albums and The Diary is one of the greatest hip hop albums period bar none.

This blatant disrespect in this thread is disgusting. You nikkas still don't get it.

Bar none.

When dudes in the early 90s did those smart dumb nikka raps :martin:

West coast rappers shytting on women (Death Row, NWA ), making it a trend . fukked up dating IMO long before social media was born.

Lyrics being heavily censored on the radio but rock/alternative songs got a pass :mjpls:

nikka said UGK and 8 Ball & MJG are regional like nikkas outside of the northeast was really bumping Jeru the damaja and smif n wessun and cnn and shyt like that ... theyre all dope but you cant brush off southern acts for being regional then give classic status to equally regional east coast shyt

no breh. Let's keep it 1000. Those albums ARE NOT on the same level of Illmatic, Cuban Linx, Infamous, etc. that I already mentioned.

Each of those albums have a couple cool tracks. But nothing, over the course of the entire album, that makes you go HOLY shyt: these beats are next-level incredible and these rhymes are next-level incredible.

I'm disgusted with some of the ignorance in this thread. I'm willing to bet you that none of you listened to these albums nor understand the impact they've had on the culture

talk about ignorance then act like OB4CL doesn't belong in the all-time great album convo :snoop:

breh, why do you get so emotional and dismissive over hip hop convo? It's stuff like this that proves you're not looking at this shyt objectively nor open to truth.

Like I said, I got love for the other coasts. I think that Southern bounce shyt is fukkING GENIUS. How could I possibly hate the South when Timbaland is my second all-time favorite producer and Live.Love.ASAP is in my personal top 5 rap albums ever?

I am very aware of what the South brought to the game. I just don't think you've made that 'apex music' like East Coast did.

The fact that you think there's a 100 more proves my point.

There are VERY FEW rap albums in the East Coast that can fukk with Illmatic, Cuban Linx, Infamous, etc that I mentioned. But somehow, in the West Coast, there are a 100 more than can? :russ:

Cmon y'all. You can't tell the difference between a Mazda, a Volkswagen and a Ferrari? It's pretty fukking clear who made that apex rap and who didn't.
