What's funny about this KG shyt is that I clearly remember people trying to argue that KG was still one of the best bigs in the league last year after that series with the Heat.
KG is a more complete player. Let's not lie and say Dirk is even a remotely decent defender. Sure dirk raped KG 1-1 in that matchup but that's not the sole measure of defensive ability.
THey both have an equal number of Championships, though KG went to two finals at least. THey both have the same number of MVPs, even though KG deserved two. KG has one more DPOY award, and more all nba defense selections.
DIrk just happens to be one of the most unguardable players in NBA history. Bottom line, if I'm picking one of them, it's KG without hesitation.
KG's 2 finals appearances came with a prime Pierce, blossoming/prime Rondo, and solid Ray Allen. He also had Kendrick Perkins playing Center and providing another level of defense in the paint. Pierce and Allen are already better than any teammate Dirk ever had during his 2 Finals runs. (Dirk Nowitzki played in the 2006 NBA Finals...)
KG only has an equal number of championships cause he got to play with 2 All-Stars in their primes, while Dirk got Jason Terry, 38 year old Jason Kidd, and Tyson Chandler (who can't make a shot outside of 5 feet).
And if we're talking about this "deserved" bullshyt (which is some serious shyt) then we can make the argument that Dirk deserves 2 rings after the WWE event that was the 2006 NBA Finals. At least Dirk beasted for his teams during his 2 Finals runs and had a GOAT performance in the entire 2011 run. KG sat back and watched Paul Pierce do the heavy lifting and get the MVP during his title run
Dirk is a legit #1 option you can build a team around. KG is that dude who can grab boards, play tenacious defense, and hit the outside jumper when you kick it to him. He's still a top 10 player of the decade, but like Malta said, he's a complimentary player (an amazing one), not a guy you build your squad around.
And while you want to spit out all those achievements, tell me who has better playoff numbers. Like I said before, if you take KG you still need a true #1 scorer next to him, along with all the role players. If you take Dirk, you just need complimentary role players/defenders. I'd say a #1 is much much harder to find than a rim-protector (Marc Gasol or Tyson Chandler type player), wouldn't you?
Mike Conley is a more "complete player" than AI. You putting him above Iverson?
"Complete players," don't mean as much in a game where the emphasis, especially with the current whistle-blowing situation in the NBA, is on offensive scoring. What good is KG's amazing defense when he can't even get you points when you need them to win the game?
You bring up his statline to try and disprove my point, and then you can't even go and look at stats to see how he got his averages
Pierce had higher PPG, APG, FG%, and FT% in the Finals. Ray Allen had more PPG and %s as well. KG inflated his stats in the earlier rounds playing against inferior teams. Pierce carried him in the Finals the same way Wade carried LeBron in the 2011 Finals. It's not rocket science...
Meanwhile, Dirk stays making clutch shots, nailing game-winners, averaging 25-10, and hoisting the MVP trophy in the Finals.
But you can stay arguing this point when I made about 15 others why Dirk is better
this guy a man called hawk clearly has not been watching basketball long enough..
I know the Mavs rosters year by year by heart, the best player Dirk ever played with was Steve Nash, whom he took to the WCF and with whom he couldn't win a title with because the rest of the roster was pretty bummy, dirk took a roster where Josh howard was the second best player to the finals, took that same team to a 67 win season (and a dissapoint playoff series loss adminitelly) in the next year, and then took a team with offesnively challenged Tyson Badhandsler, an overhill Jason Kidd who we were criticized for trading Devin Harris for, An offensively limited Shawn Marion and Deshawn Stevenson....basically Dirk won a title with Jet Terry and Jason Barrea as his 2 and 3 best players..
KG, the same KG that Dirk has been shytting on numbers wise (playoff numbers wise as hell) throoughout the course of their careers
My dude.....you just posted a list that has Chauncey Billups listed as being better than Hakeem Olajuwon, Dwyane Wade, Pau Gasol, Adrian Dantley, Ben Wallace, Shaquille O'Neal, Reggie Miller, Kevin McHale, Larry Bird, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, John Stockton, Kobe Bryant, Ray Allen, Shawn Kemp, Dikembe Mutombo, and Kevin Garnett
Did you proofread that list before posting it? At all? Even a little bit?
Were you not watching the NBA back when KG was getting raped out of the playoffs consistently?
And just stop with the "Dirk had a better team!!" argument already. 2006 Mavericks NBA Finals team had a starting 5 of Dirk, Devin Harris, Josh Howard, Adrian Griffin, and Erica Dampier. Oh, and they won 67 games the next year.
Dirk got to the Finals twice and so did KG. Difference being Dirk didn't have to jump ship and team up with Paul Pierce, Rajon Rondo, and Ray Allen.
Name all the All-Stars Dirk had in the post-Finley and post-Nash era that supposedly helped him out a great deal when he lead his team to 7 straight 50+ win seasons. Go ahead, I'll wait.
Oh, and the whole "KG plays both sides!" shyt. Just stop. Dirk is one of only 4 dudes to average 25-10 in the NBA Playoffs ever. EVER. The others being Bob Pettit, The Dream, and Elgin Baylor. I don't give a shyt about KG playing defense, I need buckets and especially big buckets at crunch time in the playoffs. You can find guys like Tyson to plug the middle and protect the rim. Guys who can score like Dirk are once in a generation.
Dirk >>>>> KG
Only Mavs All-Star selections post Nash: bum ass Josh Howard in 2006-2007 and old ass Jason Kidd in 2009-2010
Are we calling Wally Szczerbiak, a dude who averaged 14.4, 18.7, 17.6, 10.2, 17.6, and 20.1 PPG from the 2000-2001 season to the 2005-2006 season, respectively, a bum?
Cause if so, that's what I mean by saying Josh Howard was a bum. In fact, he's even worse than Wally.
Josh's "prime" was what, 3 fukking years? Yet people want to talk about how KG's squad was garbage and he had a dude in Wally who was better and lasted longer than Howard.
Matter of fact, go look at the 02-03 and 03-04 TWolves and tell me they didn't have solid players.
I use the term "bum" the same way all you morons call KG's team's trash all those years, except I'm more correct in my usage considering I'm talking about a dude who played 3 years of legit NBA basketball before he went
Matter of fact, I'll help you guys out. Here is the 2003-2004 TWolves.
Yeah, real shytty team with no support, no help, no quality players that KG was stuck on during those years. But please, continue with the narrative that Dirk played with guys like prime Paul Pierce, Rajon Rondo, and Ray Allen en route to Finals appearances!
