I’ve felt like this for a while but figured it was just about getting older. :flabbynsick:

Feels like theres no new young superstars to take over from kendrick, drake, cole…. Theres some people here and there that pop up but they don’t seem to have staying power.

I saw the top selling hip hop albums of 2022 somewhere and it was drake, kendrick, future, etc. same shyt as the years before

There’s not even producers who comes through and lock the game down anymore. Polo Da Don, Neptunes,Mustard,Kanye ect..

Call them wack or whatever else, but they all had the game on lock at one point. I fukk with Metro and Hit. They not super producers.
Metro is a star/super producer, Hitboy bats close to 1000, but he makes a lot of different styles so it’s hard for him to stick out not having a signature sound and also doing a lot of non mainstream work - he’s not a slave to putting up radio/viral hits

also female rap getting popular again. All that shyt is trash :yeshrug:

Not trying to hear women talk like men
Were you going to listen to them talk like women?

Female rappers ain’t never been as big of sellers as men because men don’t listen to female rappers like that, wish y’all would stop fronting like you’d be listening to female rap if they talked about something else. Rhapsody, Dreezy, Tierra Wack, Noname all sitting around going double wood…yet it’s the content that needs to change :stopitslime:

I listen to R&B so yeah, i wouldn’t mind hearing females rap with a little more genre/subject diversity, Lauren Hill did it 20 something years ago.

It was liek there were two timelines female mainstream rap could have went, it was Lauren and it was kim and it went in the direction of kim and now its bleeding into everything.

Lauryn Hill is a bird despite how people want to hold her up as some moral authority in female rap.

I just named four women who aren’t on the lil Kim timeline, and there are others, yet no one is listening to them - including men who keep asking for the women’s content to change, despite enjoying male rappers having redundant rhymes about killing people and doing drugs,

Theres nothing wrong with being a bird though, Erykah (and most R&B chicks) a bird too but she makes great music.

There’s a huge gulf between just straight up raunchy shyt on every single and just talking your shyt as a woman. The former seems to just be chasing trends and it comes off super inauthentic for a lot of these rappers.

The problem with the people you mention is they dont have the look or the sound, they are the rawkus records of female rappers you can’t use them as an example for diversity when talking about mainstream music. Theres popular rappers that don’t adhere to cliche “underground” tropes and don’t adhere to the popular drill/drug raps either, which is what i find missing with popular female rappers. There’s no middle ground for them.

Also has Tiera Whack actually put out an actual full album yet?

They do have the sound, dreezy especially, and looks shouldn’t be the end all, queen latifah wasnt a looker, da brat was a whole Tomboy, missy? Like miss me with playing into the looks thing, that’s for men, not women, we ain’t trying to smash.

Dreezy, lakeyah (tho they’ve tried to sex her up), Rico nasty - all are very middle ground.

And who are the middle ground male rappers who are popular? All the “older” dudes who debuted 2008-2012?

Women care more about how these female rappers look more than men do. You think it’s us going out spending all this money on meg the stallion and saweetie shyt? They dressing up and doing these looks for their female fans, women don’t want to follow chicks that look like Rapsody and thats just the gods honest truth.

You act like they washed, like i said before, there ain’t no one out here really generating hype on the same scale as drake, kendrick and to a slightly lesser degree cole.

Uzi is the definition of middle ground

Dreezy would be bigger if she was on a label

I hear you. You may like my dark, hardcore and clever Hip hop.

Honestly I dont post on here much anymore, just havent had the time but I've still been at least taking a glance over the topics and listening to new shyt......

....i've never seen the game as stale as it is right now. Its just dead, there little to no good projects coming out from major artists and the stuff that is good is still fairly rehashed shyt that has had the same sound and style for years. Its been a minute since someone shifted the culture or scene I never it remember being this long honestly :hhh: :mjcry:
