Are superstars
Which is a massive indictment on the current state of mainstream rap. Gunna makes the best music out of all of them but that’s really a list of whiny emo thug ass dudes

Eh.

I'm at a point now where I don't care. I'ma find some shyt I like and rock with it, that's all you can do. There's a lot of music out there, actually too much if we keepin' it honest. If you can't hear some shyt that resonates it's because you don't want to. Would I like for it to be better? Sure. Do I think these popular nikkas are gonna make it better? fukk no. But I'm not a fan of popularity, I'm a fan of music, so I can't worry about the artists that ain't getting enough play, or who I don't like that is getting play. There's artists out here that do exactly what people say is missing right now, but if you want it fed to you, you're gonna end up starved. You don't have to go on some wild goose chase to find it, but it's not gona be found on the radio or these other antiquated outlets that people still expect to tell them what's dope.

for me its just growing up tbh
i got kids now... i used to be a kid listening to 50 and Game playing gta san andreas :wow:

I dont have time to go find artists or honestly even listen to projects front to back with 0 distractions. I have to split things up etc. and even with that, i mostly just listen to things i grew up on.. Any new albums, i only make the time for it if its someone i really like.

I disagree

Last year was a GREAT year for Hip Hop music with some stellar to incredible projects

Pusha T
Kendrick
Black Star
Joey Badass
Conway The Machine
Black Thought
Benny The Butcher
KRS ONE
Lupe Fiasco
JID
Denzel Curry
Vince Staples
Earl Sweatshirt
NAS

All dropped GREAT projects last year. Hell even Drake managed to drop a quality album with Her Loss. And thats not to mention all the quality underground artists like Billy Woods who dropped good projects.

The game in my opinion has been better than ever

It's definitely not in the best spot.

I blame the labels for being partially responsible, but the actual talented artists don’t seem to care much anymore, either. There are always a few exceptions. Mostly solidified legends. But the culture itself isn't moving collectively like it did in the 90's, where the majority seemed focused on keeping things at a certain standard. Today, it seems people kinda work when they feel like it, just to keep their name out there or the lights on.

The game is also saturated. You can throw a rock out of a window and hit a "producer" or a "rapper", these days. And chances are, they'll be trash. So the game has suffered from mediocrity, but also from a lack of gatekeepers who should shut sh*t down when it doesn't meet the criteria from what this sh*t should sound and feel like. It really feels like Hip Hop kinda gave up on itself.

It’s bad, even my favorite albums and songs from last year are pretty mid overall.

Those people put out solid offerings but not one of those artist’s most recent project is their best in my opinion. Like I can’t even think of a current rapper that is ascending or peaking at the moment. I would legit struggle to name 5 quality well rounded rappers under 30. Something gotta give, post covid music just feels a lil different I guess

Live your own life
Back in the day when records sells were at its peak, many rappers used to start of their career with a movement with a unique sound, flow, and lyricism that made an impact on the Hip Hop culture. An example are Wu Tang, NWA, DeathRow, Roc-a Fella, Cash Money, Ruff Ryders, Rap A Lot, No Limit, AfterMath, etc. Independent record labels of this era aren't making any noises compare to their predecessors because everything already has been done. I think HipHop has reached its peak. It will remain stagnant until someone or group emerges in the mainstream with a fresh sound and creativity that will push the culture forward.
