Great song but shouldn't we give more credit to producer not to pac song writings since the verses are all chopped up & altered old ones? Edit: just read on wikipedia pac re-recorded old verses, anyone know what album he wanted it on?
This song was a big part of my music memories of middle school...like a lot of songs back then, it seemed to be everywhere, on the radio when I got picked up from school, on tv after school, watching mtv at a friends house, on cd players and walkmans at school...
I was in middle school, this song was in like 98 right? Still a classic, though now, we can critique that the sample is a bit overwrought and semi sappy, but it's still an undeniably classic record. Music back then was different, and maybe the difference lays with the audience, that song had everyone loving and relating to a song essentially about black struggle in America, from the perspective of the lower class...white 13 year olds loved that song, I don't know if 15 years later music has that ability, or maybe it was just Pac, his universal appeal was always amazing.

No. He re-recorded a couple of different versions of this track throughout his career and the one that was released was the final version, Tupac also used the verse on "I Wonder If Heaven's Got a Ghetto"

Jay Z is what he is because of Christopher Wallace being dead. Brooklyn got behind him when their true leader died. NY got behind him when he was all there was left of anything relevant when that down south bullshyt starting pouring in. That's all there is to it. He grinded for about 6 years Hard Knock Life got big and went commercial. That's commendable. He was second rate when Tupac was alive....Tupac is the greatest of all time and the fans even have their say with them shytting on Jay and making Pac a higher seller than he is historically.

If I see an artist record multiple versions of the same song despite constantly creating other songs I look at the song as something that the artist felt strongly about.

Pac can be your fave rapper..thats fine..I happen to not think much of him as a rapper imo but objectively I recognize he's one of the greats
Jay has been on top to long which is why he gets the hate he usually does
Its like wrestling..when a face is going over all the time the people stop getting behind the face and start to get behind the heel, the underdog.
Because of Jay's image of being some sort of elite and not ever really taking the underdog position, the people which are the equivalent of what most people call smarks, tho they are really just heel marks...will hate him..and have a biased view against his work
