Diabetes runs in my family. My family don't take care of theirs though...they still eat white bread and white rice.

Besides broccoli, onion, peppers, squash and zucchini I don't eat a lot a veggies. That's why I'm curious about the meals you all be making... especially if you're vegetarian.

Just find a way to get some of that dark leafy greens in you and you're off to a very good start. The whay I do it just I put spinach in everything, I put it in my eggs, I blend greens into my smoothies, and I cook a large portion every week for dinner, and just do it that way. I feel so much better since then, better than I have in years and it's a great way to detox as well, with all that good stuff.

I see spinach listed a lot in food plans here.

How do ya'll like your spinach: fresh, frozen or canned?

Frozen or fresh. Also, spinach is one of the few vegetables that actually increases in nutrition when you cook it, so don't eat it raw.

I'm at a local vegan spot right now. Trying to do better from here on forward.

Gonna have to do some real research to make veggie meals cause my entire 25 veggies have just been small side dishes.

Me and my girl are friends with someone who as been a vegan for a while (15 plus years I think). He is as healthy as an ox, since knowing him me and my girl friend have managed to cut back on meat and dairy quite a bit.

I was never much of a healthy eater growing up, so any tips on some healthy easy foods?

Here are some important parts of my diet:

Oatmeal: I prefer steel cut but rolled oats are fine too. Avoid the instant oatmeal. I add a little maple syrup and some raisins for an extremely filling breakfast.

Avocado: I was always making big salads with greens, carrots, green beans, tomatoes etc. but they always felt like they were missing something. Since adding half an avocado my salads feel like a meal because besides being delicious they add a lot of calories.

Quinoa Been hearing about quinoa (Pronounced keen-wah) for a while but I had never eaten it. Supposedly NASA surveyed a multitude of foods and determined that quinoa was the most nutritionally complete food on the planet. I cook some and just keep it in the fridge and add to salads or just to eat as a side with my meals.

I notice a lot of people mentioning chicken, turkey and fish as healthy meats, but one that often gets overlooked it pork tenderloin. The tenderloin is extremely lean and usually very cheap as well. I just toss a little salt and pepper on it and brown in a little canola oil for 4-5 mins on each side and then toss in an over for at 375 for 20 mins depending on thickness.

You're stupid as hell :childplease: Diabetics can eat anything they want as long as they cancel the carbohydrates out with insulin.

I wanna hear @thekingsmen take on this subject.

Well I think it's great to be vegetarian, vegan and such. I give them major props but it's not for everyone. People's bodies are different in many ways and that includes abilities to eat certain foods. I changed my diet about 4 years ago but of a drastic change in health issues after a accident at work. I do alot of different varieties of green mixes and juices. I think people got to be careful into claiming vegetarian so fast when vegetarians can become diabetics as well. Sugar is high in fruits and berries and nuts, so try to be careful with that being your base for a meal. Hemp protein is amazing btw.

Been making good inroads, both as a lover of veggies and consumption. Probably about to become a weekday vegetarian.

Being Indian has helped with the transition a lot. Im part gujurati so recipes have generally not been an issue, a lot of us are veg. I still havent learned many south indian recipes though. I do love their food though :whew:
