Socks for Haiti. Venezuela really bailed us out with the Petrocaribe agreement. Now with Venezuela near collapse Haiti will continue be at the mercy of the US.:francis::mjcry:

The Venezuelan military has seized control of the nation’s major ports and has been placed in charge of distributing food in an attempt to deter murderous, starving food bandits. That is not even the worst news.

The military has also been put in charge of “controlling prices and stimulating production,” guaranteeing that the nation will face both a thriving black market and bloody crackdowns on the same. A recent study found that half of school children are going to bed hungry at least once a week. The government, funded mainly by oil revenue, is now undertaking an ambitious food distribution program at the same time that its oil production falls to a 13-year low. The government is also investigating an alleged billion-dollar bribery scheme tied to the state oil company. The government also recently seized a diaper factory. Neighboring countries are blocking Venezuela’s president from participating in international organizations. Entire families are sleeping on city sidewalks in order to wake up early and get in line for food. The majority of the population now buys goods from “bachaqueros,” people who stand in long lines to buy scarce products and then resell them at a markup. Indeed, standing in long lines is perhaps the last remaining growth industry in Venezuela. Not even gun murders in broad daylight can tempt bystanders to abandon their spot in line to help a bleeding victim. Last week, hundreds of desperate women rushed past border guards in order to buy food in Colombia.

In Caracas, the entire nightlife industry has shut down due to fear of violent crime. Pet owners are abandoning their dogs on the side of the road.

:sas2: The guns finally come out.....the inevitable first end stage of too much socialism...

not much longer until they start shooting people attempting to flee the country like the east Germans used to.....

LMAOOO....Thats a Red Herring fallacy ... diverting attention from the real issue by focusing instead on an issue having only a surface relevance to the first...see how that works einstein

:sas1: But ill bite since im gullible...most countries actually have "mixed economies"...those closer to the "free market capitalist" side tend to have a better standard of living...in your terms..less "shytty"

the shytty ones youre referring to like zimbabwe still show more socialist traits..heavy nationalization ,currency controls, price controls ,wage controls, heavy central planning from tariffs, bans on goods

Venezuela's issue deals with the government's currency policies, price controls, its reliance on oil, lack of savings rather than "socialism"

You ignore the fact that all those are forms of central planning...as is the nationalization of key industries, massive social welfare spending and so on
The reason there is no food has little to do with imports..its a legacy of chavez failed land redistribution programs..another socialist staple as well.

It has everything to do with that :wtf:

A lot of this predates Chavez, it goes back to the 1970s.

Was the Chavez folk correct with their central planning? Obviously not but there have been structural issues with Venezuela for a long time.

They never mixed up their economy, never went towards any type of agricultural production and that's BEFORE land redistribution.
