It has everything to do with that :wtf:

A lot of this predates Chavez, it goes back to the 1970s.

Was the Chavez folk correct with their central planning? Obviously not but there have been structural issues with Venezuela for a long time.

They never mixed up their economy, never went towards any type of agricultural production and that's BEFORE land redistribution.
I agree with you the origins of this mess pre date Chavez..but youre wrong on the agriculture ..Venezuela is a beautiful and fertile place they shouldn't be having problems producing food

In Venezuela, Land Redistribution Program Backfires
In Venezuela, President Hugo Chavez's government has made the expropriation of farmland — taking land from big landholders and giving it to the poor — central to his so-called revolution. The idea is to spur production and end dependence on food imports.

But the results have fallen short, making the country more dependent on foreign food than ever before.
The state has redistributed more than 5 million acres, about the size of Massachusetts. Some was unused state land, but increasingly it includes land seized from farmers. The government says it goes after unproductive farms, compensating the owners, or land deemed to have been stolen years ago.

The state recently seized the Tamarindo sugar cane hacienda. Juan Dos Santos says the farm rightfully belonged to his family and that they had invested $18 million making it a showcase farm.
Machado says once-productive spreads, such as the land Chirinos now farms, are now unproductive. And the result is that Venezuela is six times more dependent on foreign food imports than before Chavez took power.

"That shows that the government policy aims to increase the crop production in the country are a complete failure," Machado says.

You probably mis-read my quote, we are in agreement on agriculture

THEY SHOULD be able to be somewhat self sustaining on food. And it really should have started decades ago.

LMAOOO....Thats a Red Herring fallacy ... diverting attention from the real issue by focusing instead on an issue having only a surface relevance to the first...see how that works einstein

:sas1: But ill bite since im gullible...most countries actually have "mixed economies"...those closer to the "free market capitalist" side tend to have a better standard of living...in your terms..less "shytty"

the shytty ones youre referring to like zimbabwe still show more socialist traits..heavy nationalization ,currency controls, price controls ,wage controls, heavy central planning from tariffs, bans on goods

I only pointed that out to show it's not necessarily the ideology, but they way it's implemented. Democratic Socialism implemented right can result in Sweden. Capitalism wrongly implemented can result Somalia.

The Nordic model isnt socialist economically...they allow free-market capitalism to create the wealth which they tax and funnel into social programs..Much like the US does

But they can spend more on social programs because they arent running the biggest most powerful and expensive military machine the world has ever seen....

And second..DONT write off somalia just yet..somalia has been growing faster economically than any other African Nation..They have 4G LTE networks and broadband systems that are better and cheaper than Kenyas or Ethiopias.

They are having a real estate boom right now

They scored highest on the happiness index in East Africa...

I guess not having a corrupt oligarchy interfering with people is a good thing.....id rather move to somalia than venezuela any day
