I'm in DE right now. Where do you work?

I work for a Consulting company, I rather not say the name in this thread though. If you are trying to get to DC I`d say try to get your PMP and ITIL cert and just go in as a PM, you have 6 yrs experience and PMP requires 4 or 5 yrs project experience (I could be wrong about that).

yup had an Interview not too long ago where mofos were playing Good Cop bad cop and I was super straight on the vibe after that interview, ended up turning down the position because it was far out and I didnt like the culture.

That said there was some super cool Indians, my last boss was an indian woman and was the best manager I ever had because she was smart as hell and didnt give a damn as long as work was done. I dont blame Indians for looking out for there people because you are suppose to do that, but sometimes it seems they'd rather just put their people on even if they are incompetent opposed to doing whats best for the company.

I`m in a position now where its gravy is hell but I already got the itch to do something better because I want to use some new tools and methodologies and this current role isn't challenging, but the pay is great and its so chill I can focus more on my school work (getting my masters) and self teaching myself some stuff. I need to get some Agile experience though because while I know it in theory and concept I haven't gone through any development cycles using it and right now Agile is the in thing and Waterfall is becoming a thing of the past for the most part.

Very true about Agile...learn JIRA and epics in Agile. after that you just gotta sell your personality and collect that check lol

I'm Pakistani. I look like them. The reason they don't hire me is because of my MUSLIM name.

But I won't deviate from my original message. Nothing comes easy, you want it, have to not quit without trying.
oh i like your message regardless. and of course they see that muslim name and try to steer clear. which is shady. i'm trying to get a job. if i'm good at it, my resume is tight, i have some experience. let me in. its always funny how the gate keepers are always trying to act like what they are doing is some astrophysicists work, its not. most desk jobs can be learned if trained properly and once you know it and repeat it everyday for 8+ hrs per day. guess what? you will know the job like the back of your hand. only a select few of employees will venture out of just their regular duties and solve real problems, catch real issues. everyone else is just doing their basic 1 2.. 1, 2

I interviewed for a Project Lead role in philly...I was not prepared lol. The phone interview was the longest 7 minutes of my life. I need to shadow my next PM and really start picking their brains...truthfully i never interacted with my PM's...they were cool and never bothered us because we got the job done.

I won't lie I was going to get an Agile/Scrum cert just so I can put it on my resume and probably finesse something saying I did used the Methodology in school projects. After next yr I will have 5 yrs experience and thats when you can really get that paper 2-3 yrs still gets you entry level roles and the 4th yr is a weird tweener spot where companies think you are too experienced (aka you will want too much money) for a Junior role (and hell you dont want to do a move to a junior role if you have work experience), but you haven't proved yourself enough for a True Senior title.

Right that's why if it interests you, you will make the effort. I didn't say hey everyone "DO THIS", that is why I wrote "want to change your career" its optional...also nothing is easy...sometimes people aren't introduced to careers that can benefit them, i'm just introducing the information, rest is up to anyone who chooses to do something with it...

Not really speaking about you. Schools do this all the time though. The sucker people in with promises of a new career and that upper middle class income after they graduate in 18 months. Meanwhile they make thousands in tuition and fees and 3 months into classes, people looking at their coursework like :dwillhuh: "what the fukk did I get myself into". Now they gotta pay back student loans and nothing to show for it.

yea this kills me, companies will have some long technology stack they want you to know and when you get there them folks dont know the mess themselves and you may use some of the tools once every blue moon. It can be real intimidating if you never worked and think "damn i gotta know all this" especially when every job asks for a different list of a ton of things. Best thing I always say is when applying to jobs, look up people on linkedin who have the job now and look at their resume/skillset because often times they dont have (or at least list) half the skills their job ask for.

I'm a ISO9001 certified auditor. I have literally never used those skills, but it's a great selling point. I just took a job for 115K and used that as a marketing tool since that particular company was looking for ISO certification.
:salute:

yup, I do know SQL, but I plan on knocking out some Salesforce or AWS certs because I`m interesting into getting into the Cloud Arena. I went from software dev to infrastructure and Cloud is something that is very interesting to me, but on the Infrastructure side BAs dont seem to be used much more so just System Engineers, Architects, and PMs. Architect is something I`d enjoy being but I`d have to go back to square one to get more technical experience and I`m super straight on that.

SEE there. but you said she's a cute chick. so cute can overcome some other race issues. and now there is a point where they do need to make that quota even if it isnt forced. many companies dont want to get called out for not having ANY diversity feel me. so you might as well be prepared cause one of us is going to have to be lucky one, might as well be you. lol

Self study aint for everybody. But yeah. There are a lot of free online courses and even ones for under 1 or 2 hundred bucks. It's all about practical application. I learned SQL for example because I was trying to build a website and needed a database to store customer/member info. So I watched a bunch of youtube videos and practiced it. I learned php and html the same way. I downloaded a pirated copy of dreamweaver and played with it. As long as you have interest and some type of practical application, then you will retain the information.

With my experience I'm seeking 50 to 55 per hour and due to that it's gonna take me some time to get a gig...but the day I ace interview and get lucky LOL...i'm treating my coli brothers to dinner.
