We always talk about producers, but did you know top mixing engineers charge $4,000-$5000+ per mix?

Yall can't provide an example of amixed song and a non-mixed version but want us to understand why top engineers command 5k????

I'm going need some examples and not all this fufu talk

Funny you said that, my wife can't tell even when I showed her songs & years later still can't. But other rappers, mixers can tell so this guy made a offer of a mil to prove to him whats the difference. Years later no one has got the cash.

James Randi Offers $1 Million If Audiophiles Can Prove $7250 Speaker Cables Are Better

Edit: his point is being a "audiophile" nonsense prove to me $8,000 equipment sounds better than $200 equipment. The same arguement for mixing/mastering

2 decades oh hip hop...and i'm not sure what the diffeence in unmixed and mixed as mentioned earlier....:jbhmm::

Early Gucci mane vs 'any' jeezy.

Only difference between both artist was execution of poor mixing product verse a better mixed artist in basic theory.
Other than factors like pr.

Past that, Gucci never had a good mixed record.
till his second large pr run with the DJ drama tapes, and sometime around his second non-big cat studio album.

Mixing and Mastering/Engineering is subjective tho. I know what y'all be gettin at but everything doesn't sound so great all pristine n shyt.

Mud is great too.

shyt is so advanced now.
You can add the frequency and sound clip to make it muddy.
Then, mix it.
so it sounds organic with the right engineer.

It's not just you. Hip hop at its core is gritty. It simply makes no sense for it to sound super clean. Takes the feeling out of the song.

I hate the sound of super clean stuff.
What feeling?

You mean the samples and chops because rap producers couldnt afford outboard gear to clean up thier tracks back in the day?

That grittiness you speak of is lack of budget and high end production studio.

it depends. dre does a very good job at making hiphop records sound clean, but a lot of cats can't do it right.

Wrong that grittiness is what shaped the sound of hiphop. That's like telling Jimmy Hendrix he doesn't know how to play a guitar, just because people considered Feedback a bad thing before he turned it into a form of art. If you make a hiphop record sound clean and don't do it right, it Lacks soul and just sounds like any other pop record.

That has nothing to do with anything. That whole perspective is white washed. Mud is quality to most rap music fans. It's been that way since Day One.

With the exception of some albums here and there, people ain't start really gettin all technical with their Sound until 97'. 1993 started it off but shyt wasn't getting Techno until later on.

Better to reign in Hell than serve in Heaven
Honestly, mixing rap is not a challenge or worth spending $5000 for a song. Most of the sounds are digital and beat makers are better at mixing their sounds and effects. A good vocal recording is the true difference maker.

Mixing is about the bells and whistles.
Depends on the song and the rapper

For joe budden to rap for 4 mins over an MP3 beat for a mixtape........ Who the hell cares

For Kendrick to do 8 voices, fades in and out, echoes, different vocals tones..... Over a Dre beat with 18 different tracks for 1 beat..... Then mix them together for his first worldwide single........

Well then yea you want that tip top quality at that point

one of my many engineering subs on youtube.....pensado's palace :blessed:
This is a great show to follow. A lot of gems of knowledge get dropped on here. DJ Mustard was even on this show and I'm sure he went into more technical aspects than his normal interviews
