Both are 2 guards, Lavine just happens to 6'5 in shoes compared to Smart who's 6'3.

So was Dwight and he couldn't cover up for Pau either. At least Z-bo tries.Marc is a DPOTY type center, right when he came back from injury the Grizz won 50 games and were the best defensive team in the league after his return, and he had Z-Bo at the 4, and Z-Bo is probably as bad as Pau on defense. Even though he had Tony Allen and Conley on the wings defending, without Marc, Memphis defense was bad. We could draft someone like Smart/Gordon, and get a 3 & D player at the 3, and that would probably be the best team to put around Kobe for one last run imo.
Kobe would destroy that dude. He has no business being a Laker, with Smart you know he can take the criticism.
We had Pringles as coach, so Pau didn't respect nor gave a fukk about him, plus we had Kobe/Nash as our back-court, probably the worst possible back-court defensively at their age. I'm convinced even if Pringles had a prime Hakeem, Rodman, Mutumbo, his teams would still be 
on defense.

Smart is longer (pause) and a better defender. He also attacks the rim better. Smart is more of a sure thing, imo.
So Pau wasn't trash on defense under Mike Brown and Phil (in his last year)? He's always been a weak link on defense though and as he gets older it's only gonna get worse.
It don't matter to me if Pau stays or if he is gone. LO really covered up his flaws on defense, he was an excellent PNR defender, all Pau really had to do was stay back and just slightly jump on defense guarding the rim. 
He wasn't terrible in the 1st half of that 2010-2011 season, but since that 2011 playoffs, he has been long gone though.

If we really want a Zach Randolph type player, than take Randle who is much younger. The worst shyt they said was when one of them said that they would consider Doug McDermott as the number one pick because he could be the next Larry Bird & that Marcus Smart is JJ Reddikk in the NBA.
