Witch of Mercury:
It's grossly overrated. Reading the manga, it was interesting at first, then went to straight gory dog shyt.

I had the opposite reaction. I thought the first.... 20-ish chapters were mid, then it kicked into overdrive and didn't become mid again until the big twist reveal way down the line. I mean, the action never stopped being there, but ehhhhhhh......

I get the feeling that BlueLock is gonna make me appreciate soccer the same way Hajime no Ippo made me appreciate boxing. It's the breakdowns and over stylization of real world techniques.

Like I be combing through this youtube channel "Modern Martial Artists", which focuses on the different techniques of boxers, Muay Thai fighters and MMA fighters. I never woulda done this before Hajime no Ippo.

Like this video:

Before Hajime no Ippo, I (and I'm sure a lot of people) would glance at boxing and only see like... one boxer aggressive, one kinda keeps away. It's not like wrestling. You don't see the flashy shyt. Announcers only really go into win-losses, left hand/right hand, and then do play-by-play.

Hajime no Ippo literally breaks it all down for you, and then adds all the street fighter special move stuff. You look at real world examples, boring mundane shyt suddenly becomes exciting. Even slow, sluggish non-Mike Tyson/Ali fights become a thing of beauty.

Haikyuu had me sweating bullets in the crib over fukking volleyball :wow:

I doubted the genre at first but nah a good sports anime is ridiculously hype

One thing we ALL need to appreciate Japan/Anime/Manga for is that it LOVES real world stuff outside it's culture (and sometimes inside) so much that someone will literally SHOW YOU why.

edit: I started to list some examples.... but there's too many examples.

even obscure shyt like Chihayafuru (top 10 GOAT anime)... the mangaka shows you why she loves karuta (the card came the manga/anime is based on) so much that you can't help but love it, too.

Or Akagi and mahjongg

Hell, look at what a monolith of a franchise The Fast and the Furious is. I HIGHLY doubt it would exist without Initial D.

Look at golgo 13.

Look at..... that manga based on blues legend Robert Johnson

It's like love letters to whatever they're choosing to represent.

edit: sorry, typed an essay. Deleted a lot, too. Blame BPD and vodka. :skip:

Decided to check CSM:

-Gladly surprised they stuck with the gore.

-The animation is very close to finally making CGI look great, but there's still some work to do. I guess we'll see a series finally land the perfect balance in the next 2-5 years. Still, I was expecting a little bit more flash like what they did with JJK, I hope we get that for the bigger fights.

-Glad Denji is the retarded simp you can't help but root for :mjlol:

-I completely understand people being underwhelmed so far. Next episode will provide more plot and "big picture" stuff and shyt will start going places, but it does seems this will be better suited for binge watching tbh.

I'm not even sure what to make of CSM still.(Anime only) I mean its entertaining. Denji, Aki and Power living together will prob be hilarious af.
Don't worry, the anime hasn't even presented the real plot yet.

seen enough from Fruits Basket to know this is an all time favorite, top 20 kinda thing. Just depends how high it gets.

good timing as I'm close to another 100 anime milestone. So far Kaguya, Cyberpunk, now this are the new shows to break it.

What's stuck out to me so far is how faithful an adaptation it is. It's been nearly identical from page to screen, with only a few exceptions. Obviously they can't keep that up but it's been impressive.

The scenes where they're housebreaking Power are fukking gold. :deadrose:
