I dropped this. The main character was annoying as hell. I get she suffers from social anxiety but it dominates the show. Suletta in G-Witch suffers from that but 7-8 episodes in it doesn’t even really dominate her characterization anymore. Watching her freak out and panic over the littlest things just wore me down. Overall it felt like a K-On clone with a more annoying main character. At its core it’s a cute girls doing cute things show just like K-On.started Bocchi the Rock. I was wondering why the reviews are so overwhelmingly positive for a supposed K-on clone, but thats cuz its really nothing like K-on in terms of direction and purpose.
K-On was ultimately about maximizing fun in a fleeting high school period, musical expertise being secondary to their everyday nonsensical club activities. Yui wasn't all that as a musician but she had endless charisma and found fun in everything and that was always the point. K-on was also an unabashed moe show that pandered to its audience.
Boochi is about overcoming social anxiety, irrational fears that can keep the talented from reaching their potential. Boochi is a god solo guitarist but has no self confidence and doesn't know how to work within a team. Lot more room for character development here that would lead to a satisfying payoff once she does reach her dream. Not really a moe show. No superficial pandering that I can see.
Similar to how a lot of sports anime use the sport as a vehicle to explore human themes, while (sometimes) providing accurate portrayals of that sport that may teach you more about it, Boochi is very much the same for band music and I can appreciate that. There's a few good musical anime that work like this (Kids on the Slope, Nodame Cantabile, Beck etc) and this seems to be another one. Its exceptionally good for a CGDCT show (but still a CGDCT show, so its never gonna be for everyone)

I’d argue that premise would work better as a romance show where she meets a boy and he helps her with her social anxiety bringing her out of her shell.

I’ve just seen better shows even about music. Watching these moe blob shows is just unfulfilling and ultimately that’s what this is watching moe blob characters have mundane interactions most of the time. Difference here is one of the moe blobs here is crippled by her social anxiety. Feels like New Game, Comic Girls, and K-On and all those other shows just like it.Watched Violet Evergarden movie.
It had its moments, and Violet's character arc tied up nicely considering how she started, but the route they took in the end was....surprising to say the least. Didn't see it coming based on the TV series.
I'm a little surprised you dropped this considering the things you tolerate in the genre, but I understand the criticism. She does develop overtime and that's part of the charm of the show. Where she is in episode 6 compared to episode 1 is night and day for her standards and the progression feels authentic as its tied to her confidence improving.
Agree to disagree on the second point. The worst romances tend to have vapid premises like that.
Girl/Guy has crippling anxiety, struggles with trauma - here's a teenage romantic interest that miraculously cures that. Wish fulfillment.

Kono Oto Tomare was way more interesting than this. Let’s pretend romance shows like that Oregairu and Tomozaki-Kun don’t exist that deal with characters suffering from social anxiety and emotional trauma meeting people of the opposite sex and working through their issues by connecting with others don’t exist.
