Secrets of the Silent Witch and The Stunned Hero and the Assassin Princesses both got me feeling some type of way about the "so socially awkward that they can't express themselves" trope.

I know it's just entertainment, forgetable entertainment at that - but this is such a common trope for an MC to have, that it just makes me feel sorry for Japan.

That crippling shyness just frustrates the fukk out of me. Tried the first episode of both of these and not sure I'll continue.

Demon's Ascension got that old Saturday morning cartoon kind of vibe I fukk with

The pacing for everything does seem super abrupt though, decent enough for a filler show

Only counter to this is that the war had literally just started iirc, I wasn't expecting to see any huge frontline action cuz everyone was still wondering who all was gonna be involved in it, and I really didn't want to see a ton of action cuts with this to begin with, wouldn't make sense for the characters we saw to be that close to hardened soldiers, Sharp on a ship full of rookies and Aleks a whole prince being hunted, this was always gonna be more of spy/hostage territory where you got a couple soldiers doing shyt in otherwise peaceful areas, but getting outta dodge once the big military factions showed up

The set up reminded me of Dune (minus the only reason Paul was on the front lines, the Fremen, a warrior race who only respected leaders like that)

But yea I wish it didn't fully resolve I would've definitely been locked in if they did some more globetrotting diplomacy moves mixed with espionage in future seasons

But I also lean towards serious that stand on getting their shyt off and ending before they give us empty episodes, was rewatching Pluto earlier today and thought that was the best aspect of the whole shyt, only showed us action when it was absolutely necessary for the plot
You do have a point. I guess the one moment I really would have liked them to show it was when they were in the Ottoman Empire since that is the pivotal moment for Aleks and his character. The whole reality of war and who is really suffering.

Generally speaking, action is always better when there is purpose to it. Shows that like to pretend there are stakes are the ones that bother me. Like we know the protagonist isn't dying :unimpressed:.

Animation aside, they did a good job adpating Shiori's arc in the anime.

For the whole time Shiori was here, he knew she had other motivations. While he might not know Shiori completely, but he understands her. Which really shows that he is a good brother for her. Deep down, Shiori also cares for her brother. But in an actual sibling manner wouldn't truthfully admit it. (Ignoring her brocon act.)

Also, I really liked the diving portion when Shiori was with Chisa. Shiori is a character who has built an image of herself. She is acting like a brocon in front of everyone. More than likely she built an image as the ideal daughter because as Iori points out, she hasn't said no to her parents about taking over the family business. Which is why she planned to get Iori to take it over.

Iori & Shiori's relationship as siblings is honestly much more realistic than that of the Kotegawa sisters. They each have their own motivations, but they still care for each other at the end of the day.

@T-K-G Crazy to imagine it has taken more than a decade to get a concrete release date. Though Shaft was dealing with issues during this time.

After this season, Bones will finally be free from the MHA bullshyt :blessed:

Man that bone cracking scene :picard:

I love the detail with Alicia being an undead. It isn't some magic that makes her undead, but it is Klen's dark ichor. It really shows that Alicia is at his mercy. I do love how Klen is being characterized because he really feels like a god monster that doesn't understand humanity. Which brings up Alicia's point of this story being important. Alicia's role is to bridge the gap between Klen and humanity. Not too surprised he tells Alicia to wipe them out and literally figure it out basically.

Carme clearly cares about Neruru. Though you do see a sense of her caring about her own self-interest first. It very much feels more authentic. As she is upset Neruru got asked to leave before her, she imagines who will eventually become the wet nurse if Neruru dies.

One would have thought Klen would have ventured to save Neruru, but that doesn't seem to be the case. I am just wondering at this point if turning Neruru into an undead would even make herself useful. Alicia is a walking corpse, but her combat abilities & knowledge are still intact. I get the feeling Neruru would lose the abiltiy to breast feed if she died.

Alicia dropping all the bandits in the water is smart & I love the bandits getting karma back to them. Also, on another note, the mention of magic advancing to control dark beasts sounds terrifying. Although I can just assume that is not a realistic expectation of the evolution of magic.
