What "intangible" IT factor is J. Cole missing that Drake seems to have?

Comeback Season is literally one of the best mixtape of the decade though. Thats how good that shyt is...and I really think a lot of people didn't even hear it.
Yeah, really only internet nikkas know about it. I got put on by an old forum, Replacement Girl was on BET too, I was there from the beginning Juice used to be my shyt in the early Drake days.
okay sir.

but j.cole is a better rapper

drake is just more appealing

ala jay z vs. nas

nas is the better rapper jayz is more appealing
The thing is Cole isn't Nas, been telling nikkas this for years Cole ISN'T Nas, he isn't that nice, he isn't that descriptive of a writer, he doesn't have Nas' acclaim. Drake IS a better rapper if you actually listened to their catalogs.

I remember when this shorty in my university was chopping it up with me and I asked what music she was into at the time. She said mostly Drake. I said Drake?! :childplease::mjlol: The nikka from Degrassi?? This is around the time of So Far Gone first came out. I was like you gotta listen to Max B and shyt. She was into that up top shyt when I first met her. Fast forward a few months after actually listening to his music objectively, Drake is that dude. He has some misses but mostly hits, bangers, slept on shyt, lounge shyt, deep shyt. I apologized about it next time I saw her few years later.

As far as hit singles, Drake is probably the best hook writer ever. He writes that part in a song that just sticks in your head while he can make other rappers, though they might have better verses, seem like background noise at the end of the day.

I'm not being facetious, I am genuinely a bigger Cole fan. I've bought every single Cole album and I've never paid for a Drake album. I relate more to Cole and I like the fact that he doesn't sing as much as Drake (obviously he lacks singing ability), but there's just something missing with this kid. It's more than just charisma, it seems to be a lack of maturity/ability to present a universal worldview. Like, what the fukk was "Wet Dreams" doing on FHD? Why the fukk would I care about how Cole lost his virginity? Same goes for "Hello". Like, I've listened to the song a couple of times and I can't figure out why he thinks his audience would care. Drake just seems to have a more universal appeal, the ability to see beyond himself and speak in a general/abstract manner.

Apologies if I haven't articulated this right, but I remember reading an article talking about Cole a couple of months back, about his lack of an ability to speak beyond himself. Like, I hear 2Pac or Biggie rapping about their troubles, but I feel it. Same with Nas (not really a big fan) and the other legends. Does anyone know what I'm talking about? :ld:

Drakes is a tool and pressed to be liked.... Cole is genuine....and just makes the music he wants....

drake's music is more melodic a la catchy....cole is more focused on lyricism over melodies hence requiring more effort to listen to sometimes if the beat aint jamming...drake clearly has a better ear for beats/melodies....casual rap fans will gravitate more to the 'easier' listen

All that needs to be said. Right on the money.

Drake is also a better lyricist than Cole too. So y'all using that angle to hate on Aubrey talking about casual listening and shyt need to stop it right now. And I like both artists but for me Drake is superior. That doesn't maean I don't fukk with J Cole it just is what it is imo.

Drake's music is infinitely more interesting than J. Cole, which is so disappointing because he's a better rapper. Just on a people level, you'll like Drake as a homie over Jermaine wouldn't you? Just like most legends, likability as a person is a key factor in overall remembrance. Nas is a nikka most people just wanted to know and he was cool for his time, same with Hov, KRS, Reverend Run, these are people that were "cool" in their eras and were LIKED.

One more example is that Eminem came out of the literal bottom and he was just an underdog, and who doesn't like underdogs?
