Not really checked into this thread but I hear wot ops saying with the impact thing, sales aside

It's a weird one. Wu tang influenced a whole generation by shifting the culture whereas it's almost like bone thugs skipped a generation and ended up hitting this current crop of fukk boy rappers

Pretty nuts when you think about it :ehh:

So what do you wanna talk about, prime vs. prime? It's already established that Bone sold more than Wu in their primes. Did they make better music? That's subjective. I don't think so. It's basically whose music you preferred to listen to more. Wu were big in the 90's, Bone were big in the 90's. Wu sold alot of records, Bone sold more. Again...all you have is that Bone sold more records, which they did. Nobody is arguing that. But selling records is not sole indication that you are a better artist or had a more lasting and powerful legacy.

Sales aren't the only indication, but for all the other reasons yall can name and point to as proof that Wu is bigger, can simply be written off as Bone having shytty management, infighting, nobody who's business minded behind them, you cant even argue there style is dated because its influence is still seen and heard in all of this music that's out today:wow:

If you want to use the argument that WU had bigger personalitys, better management and visionary behind them that's fine, but just be happy Eazy died:mjcry:...My problem is acting like they music is what made them bigger and more visible than Bone today...or acting like Bone only sold more because they was more pop when you had Wu members winning grammys for chick songs?...Nah,i cant go for that.

I said "if you want to argue strictly music" then yes, their prime would matter. But a gang of shyt independent of music has raised Wu's visibility over the last 20 years, to the point that they have a whole concert series built around them, and BONE is performing under them.

And yes, if KRS was opening for Cube then there's a ton of factors that would contribute to that wholly separate from their music. It wouldn't be a surprise, and who sold what 25+ years ago wouldn't even need to be a topic of conversation.

The fact that there's a NWA movie and not a BDP movie should be a big ass clue as to what I'm talking about. Cube is a pop culture icon and his music from the early 90's has very little to do with that in 2016.

Fred.

How long has WU been pop culture icons though?Cuz we not going back 20+ years,we going back less than 10 years when Bone dropped a album the same year or so as Wu and sold more albums. Wu didn't JUST become pop culture icons, yet they still getting outsold by Bone:patrice:?as a pop culture icon Cube wouldn't be getting outsold by KRS today, thats for sure....So as far as Billy Oceans question,I'm not sure what else there is to talk about here....Bone outsold them in they prime, and well out of they prime AFTER Wu was "pop culture icons"....Yet when Bone fans make accusations of bias, and smoke and mirrors its laughed off, maybe yall shouldn't be laughing so hard:sas2:

Depending on what argument you CHOOSE to argue, and find relevancy in,you could make this thread say "Why has Wu never reached Bones level" and it would be accurate:sas1:

A boxer or any athlete's prime is based on their athletic ability at the time, so fairest comparison to make between athletes is prime vs prime. The tape of results head to head against competition won't lie.
In music, there could be all types of X-factors to what you consider a prime. Are artists selling at a particular moment just because they have catchy hooks or are the flavor of moment? Is it because a bunch of casual listeners liked it because they can dance along to them? Does that prime really have to do with actual skill? Basing music arguments on sales during a hot streak rather than longevity and legacy is shallow. If all those people that bought a particular artists music ain't checking for them once the moment is over why put so much weight on the moment?

And to have a fool like @bigbadbossup2012 talk about the reason Bone isn't being recognized in 2016 as much Wu-tang is based on a media brainwashing from 1996 is pure LUNACY

bigbadbossup is right on the money actually imo.

And Bone outsold Wu in they primes and well out of they primes, which is why I think its fair game....How do bigger sales more than a decade after your considered hot not show longevity in your favor:dahell:?That's bigger than a hot streak breh....You telling me Wu wasn't bigger in popular culture than Bone by 2007?being on CHapelle show,Meth doing movies like How High etc? Yet they still got outsold by Bone....Don't get me wrong, cult following are great and helps legacys GREATLY,But shyt like that don't make you rethink this whole "Wu is bigger than Bone" thing:mjlol:?...It only takes 10 nikkas to make a cult, just remember that:pachaha:.

You must think that i'm saying SOMEBODY SAID SOMETHING IN 1996 AND THAT WAS THAT. That's not what i'm saying. I'm saying there's been a continuous theme of east coast media (whom dictates media and hiphop media in particular) of over hyping people from their soil. Giving a lopsided narrative on what's been going on in hiphop.
Which is why you'll see albums and artists from the east getting favorably compared to other artists and albums from other regions, even if those other albums have dwarfed them in success.
some will say sales dont matter. Meanwhile you'll rarely or never see an act from other regions (south, west, midwest etc) getting placed above east coast albums and artists that might have severely outsold them.

LOL This is happening only in your head. East coast hip-hop has been an afterthought for over a decade. There are not even regional sounds to distinguish east from west or south, and its been that way for years. Who from the east has been getting push from the media other than Nicki Minaj and Fetty Wap? What was the last East coast album to be praised like that in the media? You sound like you went into jail in 97 and just coming home

Doesnt matter, the shyt is set in stone now. Even if you look at newer forms of media like podcasts
Who's running it?
Juan ep
Tax stone
rap radar
drink champs
Combat jack

3 of these entities (or a member of them) have went out of their way to disrespect a west coast don like 2pac years after his death.
Tax called him a snitch

Combat dissed his whole entire existence (before the combat jack show) and on his show, him and lil shawn were clowning spice 1,a west coast legend with a couple classic albums under his belt.

Rosenberg deviated from an interview with an actor about 2pac's upcoming biopic,to label 2pac "a good rapper" in an attempt to demote 2pac's great rapper status amongst the general public.

Funkmaster flex, legendary dj and spinner at hot 97 ,one of the biggest stations for hiphop of all times (i'd say the biggest)
Was just dissing pac a couple years ago
So they still with the shyts even if they have lost SOME power.
Now if you're young and impressionable or live over within that east coast world you might actually believe these narratives as facts because you dont have enough opposing views coming your way to counter or contradict what they're saying.
