he improved on those mistakes. he played so much better the last four games.

He did, also those were games of zero importance.

Easy to play well with all the pressure off.

I think the jury is still out on the kid, but it seems more and more people laud the efforts of those willing to turn it over.

And he had 1 turnover his last four games.

You can act like he didn't improve. Not my issue. I just don't see any risk taking by EJ

He did, but he had a lot of awful games before that.

Good thing, 2014. Fresh start for him, I do think he is better than those early disaster games, but I also don't put a lot of stock in players who play well when all the pressure is off

The jury being out is obvious. He ran for half his rushing total those last 4 games and forced teams out of defenses.

I'm sorry...I see more potential in Geno than I do EJ

he was a rookie that wasn't supposed to start on a team with zero offensive weapons. zero importance? their jobs were on the line including his coach.

Of course ya do, but I actually agree.

I like Geno Smith, if he can get rid of the mistakes he can be a good QB in the league.

Report from yesterday's practice:
- EJ Manuel’s day in Canton was overblown by some, but his performance on Tuesday did not inspire much confidence for his first time back on the field since. During the team’s first preseason game Manuel never really got into the flow of the game and ended up with his now well-known and, well, poor stat line. As noted by WGR following the contest, Manuel’s decisiveness during the game was one of his strong points, regardless of how the plays turned out. That all but vanished on Tuesday outside a handful of instances, often times waiting too long for his read to come open. One of his biggest enemies has been standing back for too long and patting the ball, eventually settling for either the dump-off option or for a quarterback scramble. It’s borderline inexcusable to tuck the ball and run during a 7-on-7 drill where there is no pass rush, which is what Manuel has done on many occasions. The shots down the field on go routes are worked into the game plan and he’s taught to take the shot if there is single coverage. Outside of that, though, he needs to get out of his comfort zone and fit the ball into tight windows, or else he’ll just continue to settle for the small stuff. Teams will figure that out quite quickly.

:snoop: dude better stop playing like a HS QB

The Yay
the report is already biased against 'small stuff'

thats basically an opinion which Im completely the opposite side on. no qb needs to fit ball into tight windows, thats not a qbs job

with that said, I dont think ej manuel is good or will be good any time soon. its just the reason for it is NOT risk aversion, being timid or being given the ubiquitously annoying tag of 'game manager'.

Nah dog. This is basically what I saw play out the first game the Jets faced them. I saw the Jets force dude into making safe throws and in doing so, the Jets defense controlled the game. I long told you about dudes fear of making the risky throw will hold him back. Dude is "one read....hit the checkdown!!" If a guy isn't WIDE open...he isn't throwing the ball.
