Im referring to supreme lyricists like Talib, Mos, Nas,Common, Lupe, Joe Budden, Tupac, Wale, eLzhi, etc. Just take away the music and listen to the lyrics as "poetry". Thats what rap is in its essence anyway.

You said rap music at its essence is poetry. Be clear: Are you saying the art of rapping (which is part of what makes up rap music but is not rap music in its entirety) is like poetry? Or art of rapping = entirety of rap = poetry
