Banks poetry>>>>>
Im not talking bout the Future's , Keef's and Fetty Wap's
Im referring to supreme lyricists like Talib, Mos, Nas,Common, Lupe, Joe Budden, Tupac, Wale, eLzhi, etc. Just take away the music and listen to the lyrics as "poetry". Thats what rap is in its essence anyway. For instance,
Imo rappers dont get enough credit for their talent of expressing themselves with words. Not only that, but doing it in a structured way and using different rhyme patterns and techniques and ALSO doing all of this in a certain number of bars. I think the content of alot of mainstream rap overshadows the talent that these rappers have. They are genuises in my book. They have unique skills. Everyone CAN NOT do what they do. The ability to write poetry is a gift. Its not a coincidence that rappers are also some of the best public speakers and orators also.
Aint no hard work. You seem to be the only person not getting it. If you need me to say "the art of rapping" so you'll understand then fine. The art of rapping at its core is poetry.
All Catholics are Christian but not all Christians are Catholics. Not true. Check the daps.
And even if it were true, that's because the rest are nodding like morons and question your vague statements.
I said "How come rappers aren't more respected as writers?"
No offense OP... Are you white?
Imo the content (which is largely made up of ignorance & buffoonery) of most mainstream rap overshadows the talent of these rappers as writers. They paint THEMSELVES out as dumb and unintelligent.
Also nobody "spits" anymore in the mainstream, so alot of people have a misconception. The sing-songy, melody type flow has taken over and has replaced lyricism.
No offense OP... Are you white?
It's just that I dont gain "appreciation" from rappers by cross checking flow and cadence to anglo/roman standards. I take the artist for who they are. White people often examine black art in a vacuum and never really allow the artist to create their own space. No disrespect bro. I just got confused by what u are playing at.No. Black. Im interested, is comparing rap to poetry a "white" thing? Or is poetry itself considered "white"? Seems like nerves are being struck here with the comparison.
