Brooklyn keeps on taking it.
i get into it constantly when a black person turns their nose up at black person with a black name or be like “wow why did their mom name them that”.

its weird to me because every other race’s culture can be displayed through their name. but black people cant have that or its looked down upon as being ghetto.

never heard of mexicans saying they have to name their child Tom so they wont have to worry about getting a job. i know we get profiled for our names in interviews but we have to put a stop to that influencing how we want to exist in this world imo. what are yall thoughts?

I don’t know many blacks people with white names like Tom. If anything they have basics non racial names like Michael.

I’m Haitian so by default many of our names are French and can throw cacs off a bit when they read our resumes. Even then my mom gave me and my sister Jewish first names cause she was worried a bit

To me it shows that unlike other races, black Americans have had an unwillingness to assimilate into white culture which is why I believe white people hate us.
Yup. Just look at the term “model minorities” and who ‘fits’ into that category and why? CACs just buttering up their white adjacent pets to do their bidding.

CACs are obsessed with black culture. Just look at how this forum is infested with culture vultures masquerading in black face. That tells me all I need to know how black culture is superior and it isn’t even close.

Everyone jocks us, from CACs to the so called model minorities. There is nothing to envy about CACs and their culture when they’ve had to steal our seasoning for centuries to give their bland palate some flavor.

Because some of the names are ridiculous.
Also gives another undue disadvantage to black kids when they grow up.

Nigerians/Ghanaian pull the same thing when they name their kid Success or some crazy shyt like Blessings Prosper Adewale.

its that and something a lil deeper. both Yoruba and Akan cultures believe names = destiny. Said differently, everytime your name is called it is supposed to resonate with your ori/sunsum and will assist you on your life's journey to fulfilling your obligations you made with the ancestors prior to birth.

I think also, to your point, that there may be this analysis of, "success in my language is not effective enough as the white man's success."

My exact reason for being hesitant, I just don’t want to Handicap my kid

yea this is the reason why i made this thread.

we shouldnt have fear of this. how can we get to a point where we can be comfortable and dont have to worry about white supremacy impacting us to the point if a black person wants to name their child “Tadarius Marvelous Ezale” they can? it doesnt make sense we have to live in fear to the point black americans have to second guess establishing an identity.

Anybody co-signing these fuked up names these trash ass baby mamas are giving to kids probably have names like that themselves. You’ll hate to admit it but a kid’s name can directly be correlated to the intelligence and background of the parents, regardless of race...
my name is simple & white as hell so this isnt true in the slightest.

I bet breh doesn’t have a problem with Native Americans naming their children “crazy names” like “Howling Wind.” It’s only crazy when black people do it apparently.
