Some of our ancestors prior to the transatlantic slave trade had Muslim names because they were Muslim. They brought Islam with them to America when they were made slaves and continued incorporating Muslim names. The use of Muslim names goes beyond our 400 year history in this country.

So what’s your point ?? When we first came here, we were Africans with all of their influences. We are now African Americans with our own short unique history. Some had Arab names and gave them value. Folks now assign value to all kinds of different things, hence some of the names .

you can break down any name in any culture to it it’s root meaning if you understand said culture

i.e cleopatra for example a Greek meaning glory to the father. Cleo - glory to, patra - father or of the father

We can take this even 3 steps further with middle eastern names like Sarah, Michael, Benjamin, or any name rooted in Hebrew, Aramaic, or Arabic traditions.

Certain names survived 1000 years cause they were fly names, the names you are talking about barely survived one person. Also cause most of those names are based on religion.

its weird to me because every other race’s culture can be displayed through their name. but black people cant have that or its looked down upon as being ghetto.
