About to have a kid actually. How crazy would I be to name him Nasir after Nas? What y’all think about that?
Seriously asking
I gotta disagree. Names like Brian, Dikembe, Jacob, James all were made up.This
A bunch of ignorant ass nikkas that make up names with no meaning because it sounds cutie.
This shyt didn't start happening until the 1970s when the Black Father was replaced out of the family structure by government assistance.
There's nothing "Pro-Black" about this ignorant shyt.
Yeah I looked into it. I know the meaning. I just don’t know if it’s too off the wall. Are you cool with this meaning? "is an Arabic masculine given name which can mean "helper" or "one who gives victory"
My exact reason for being hesitant, I just don’t want to Handicap my kidBecause it's easier to sell your kid dreams of societal standards than teach them to navigate outside the box. I think most black parents want to make things as easy as they can for their children and some believe assimilating through looks (short/permed hair vs natural), names, and lifestyle are the best ways.
I don't knock them for it. Merely existing as a black person can be difficult to navigate and again, some just try to make it as easy as possible.
I gotta disagree. Names like Brian, Dikembe, Jacob, James all were made up.
Every word we typed today were made up. Arbitrary collections of sounds words language were assigned to objects.
That is part of the reason why I have zero problem with Sharkeisha or Sarah.

Being black IS the handicap. You're not going to be more accepted or viewed differently just because you're a black Karen, Julie, Mike, or Tom. You can't out name your skin color. My exact reason for being hesitant, I just don’t want to Handicap my kid
Your point of Arab sounding names having history is kind of silly since African American history being so young

I went to school with a few Devante’s but I’m sure their mothers were Jodeci fans
I still love that name tbh.
Proof me wrong
Why aren’t you creating a foundation for your child where he doesn’t have to be dependent on someone else for a career/job in the future? My exact reason for being hesitant, I just don’t want to Handicap my kid
BlockedStop using words to communicate with us then if you don't believe in them.
How stupid would I be to use creationism in an argument if I was an atheist?
