Why are Justin Timberlake and Lady Gaga allowed to have massive flops and still get top billing?

How'd she get the opportunity? The role was basically written for her. You keep talking about Gaga like she was never successful. She could afford to have a flop when she was an extremely successful artist before that flop. They wasted millions on artpop but she made the label millions off 'the fame' and 'the fame monster' albums. They didn't give her a budget for no reason

A Star is Born has been re-made like 8 times. Judy Garland played the same part in the 50s just a different name.

I'm not understanding this thread OP. Black artists are given second chances after flops.

In this era though flops are a lot harder to gauge since streaming numbers matter more than physical sales and singles can have staying power

So where are your examples of other artists getting this type of promo for an album:







and for it to only sell 2 million copies...the budget for those commercials alone had to have been over 10 million dollars

And another thing for Gaga, she established a whole new fanbase when she did that album with Tony Bennett and went on tour with him. She pivoted away from pop (and probably flopped in pop because of it) but she is fully an adult contemporary star now.

As for JT...top billing where?

Man of the Woods finished his career. He's never going to get a major rollout like that again. His pop relevance is super gone and if his next album isn't straight up country pop or adult contemporary I'd be amazed. He's prolly gonna try to move into Michael Buble's lane. His movie career hasn't done well either aside from Trolls.

His album before 20/20 went damn near 5x plat, sold 10M worldwide, why wouldn't the label push the fukk out of his next album?

20/20 sold 2.5M in the US, 6M worldwide, had a 2x plat song and a 3x plat song.

To promote the album he went on a small tour with Jay Z that grossed 75M. He then did a solo world tour that grossed 230M.
