Not c00n shyt. Most black people are just learning we created rock. There’s so much black history we don’t know and I don’t fault “us” for not knowing.
but the jazz element is why a lot of white people like it. Not the content.
I don't think that's true, and even if it is it's no excuse.
I'd understand if folks didn't know we invented house music, because Frankie Knuckles is not well known at all. But Chuck Berry and Little Richard were pretty widely known.
I thought it was just okay for like the year or two after it was released. Then a couple months ago decided to give it another spin and it just hit different to me. Now I think it's an amazing album. I got it as his fourth best but that speaks to how crazy his other albums are more than the quality of TPAB.I love it and think it's a masterpiece, but I get it if people don't warm to it. It's not the first album I put on when I want to listen to Kenny. But the wholesale effort that went into making art like it, music that goes above the fray instead of just following trends, I respect it immensely.
