Why do you all think black women hate the character Lawerence on the show Insecure so much?

But here's why I think black women hate the Lawrence character

1. He never forgave Issa for cheating. Most of them would like to think they could cheat on their dude and he won't leave them for it because he's so sprung.

2. Didn't take care of her financially. The type that would probably want to go half on a date because he didn't have money like that. All he had was his dream and a mediocre job and black women want the finished package instead of enduring the dream.

3. He didn't wallow in pity after the breakup, he used that shyt as extra motivation to get his money right and he stepped his social life up and started getting laid by badder bytches after the breakup. They be wanting a nikka to fall off after the breakup.

I thought it was because he was a bum on the couch for years and was more concerned about getting his "going no where" company going than actually helping more and being more productive. Also, he got very lax in the relationship and even forgot her birthday.

I have no problem with Lawrence though, but I probably would not stick with a guy who sits on the couch all the time (for years) and then when he finally gets a job offer, he almost decided to stay on the couch or at Best Buy.

But that's not what happened.. He was working at best buy and got a call from the tech company that wanted him to work there... but Issa dumped him before all of that the reason he was sleeping on the couch is because Issa put him there...

We dislike Lawrence b/c he a reminder of a negro that wasted our damn time.

We dislike Lawrence’s b/c he’s one of those dudes who think that they are top quality just b/c they don’t have a record or a baby. He was the epitome of a bum dude sitting on Issa’s couch for two whole damn years! Yet y’all drag Issa for being a bum for a few weeks.

We dislike Lawrence b/c he is a constant reminder that our community believes all a black man has to do is be faithful while failing at all other accounts of a partnership. In return, he should be cherished & we should sacrifice our emotional stability to support him, while simultaneously not getting any of our needs met.

We dislike Lawrence b/c he is a selfish & passive agressive male. And btw, being passive agressive is not a masculine trait.

We dislike Lawrence b/c he’s the complete opposite of Daniel. Daniel was there for Issa when she needed him. Daniel was upfront about how he felt with Issa. Daniel told Issa about herself (although very harshly), which partially led her to confront her fears. Issa has treated Daniel like crap though. And they shouldn’t have started their “relationship” with cheating.

This idea that Lawrence is a bum or was willingly wasting time is straight trash. The second Issa brought their issues to his attention, he realized he had been in a funk and made immediate steps to better himself.

Lawrence got a good degree from a good school, is very talented, and had a great app idea that fell through due to know fault of his phone. He believed in himself, got blasted, and struggled finding a job in the field that he studied for BECAUSE he bet on himself.

Dude was depressed and wasn’t handling it great. He obviously still loved and cared for Issa. He tried to be supportive and attentive emotionally but he was in a funk. Issa is living her broke ass in her fukk buddies couch yet we judging Lawrence because he’s human.

And how was Lawrence not there for Issa when she needed him? What was he doing for Issa when Issa was hopping on Daniel’s dikk in the first season?

The second Issa actually had a conversation with Lawrence about her issues, like an adult, he immediately saw where he’d been slacking and started making moves to better himself. And she couldn’t be herself around Lawrence?

Selfishness? He immediately got out of his funk and started glowing up to appease her. The second he got news about his job and his app idea, he shared it with her. He asked his friend about how he can make things better between him and Issa. How the fukk was he selfish?

Lawrence had a very low balance in his account, per his convo with Tasha, so exactly how was he depositing enough money to pay the rent. He was unemployed & living with his girlfriend for two years. No one gets severence pay for two years unless they’ve worked for 10+ years. Lawrence, on the show, admitted that he had to swallow his pride to work at Best Buy so he was definitely down on his luck the entire time. All that being said, where is Lawrence getting all this money to pay half the rent? Giving blood? Giving sperm? Can someone give me a realistic answer as to how this is possible?

Furthermore, Lawrence is the same guy who was thinking about quitting a job he just obtained, to work on Woo Woo. Mind you, we find out later that his Woo Woo idea was an outdated concept. Why did he think it was acceptable to consider quitting a job he just obtained, thus placing all of the daily adult responsibilities on Issa again? Does he think that he is too good to work on projects on the side while he earns a living like most people? Is this the train of thought aligned with a man that is ready to lead a household?

And for the record, I rarely agree with any decisions that Issa has made thus far.

I never said Issa wasn’t moving reckless in these streets...NEVER. So miss me with the bolded line.

Daniel may have petty but Issa is a non paying guest in his house who told him he was an itch she needed to scratch. IMO, she has no right to dictate the order of his apartment. He was nice enough to oblige.
