Jesus

Bart Ehrman says: "I don't think there's any serious historian who doubts the existence of Jesus. But there are a lot of sensationalist people who want to make a lot of money by saying that Jesus didn't exist. I don't know any serious scholar who doubts the existence of Jesus."

Jesus
even if he was real, he was a joseph smith

this fool believes that hes still floating around in the clouds :mjlol:

Don't you think there is a difference in a baseline of if He existed or not. Its one thing to talk about someone like Rip Van Winkle but Jesus did exist. If people want to believe that or not its on them.

If I say that NOW and you sometime in the future become a believer then I become a liar. I don't know when you are going to die let alone what you are doing later on today.

Speak on someone else’s future breh....

What's ironic about you posting this quote from Ehrman is that Bart Ehrman believes in historical Jesus (as in a man named Jesus probably existed) but does not believe in the mythical New Testament Jesus that you believe in and has written many books criticizing the New Testament. His books have converted many a Christian into atheists lol.

The way in which everybody believes that there is no higher power.

I'm not saying you shouldn't believe in a higher power.

I'm saying you shouldn't believe in a higher power without sufficient evidence.

Don't make gullibility a virtue and call it "faith" and don't make delusion a virtue and call it "spirituality". That's counterintuitive and counterproductive.

We really need to start holding our women to a higher standard. There are a lot of simps in the church, but we need to stop tolerating women who foolishly and willingly embrace bullshyt and then have the nerve to expect their mate to do the same. :francis:

Not irony. I did that on purpose. The point is Jesus existed but the Jesus Seminar (which Erhman is part of) doesn't believe in the supernatural aspects of His life.

If you want to discuss what his books talk about I'm fine with that. All of his books start with the fact Jesus was real and not a myth.

To be honest I haven't read his book "Did Jesus Exist", just have read about it and have read a few of his blog posts. I do believe that his argument that "XYZ is true because some percentage (that I pulled out of my ass) of scholars say XYZ is true" is a little weak. The truth is not a vote. I'm interested in hearing his evidence that Jesus existed though, because most of the evidence I've been presented with has been highly questionable. Which is why I say that the historicity of Jesus is not a sure thing.

The way in which everybody believes that there is no higher power.

Maybe its the way the above sentence is constructed but I dont understand this.

It could be a lack of understanding as to what atheist means but the presupposition is plain to see. If you could please define what you believe is the higher power and qualify that with evidence.

I dont subscribe to the "extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence" mantra. I really dont know what your beliefs are and I am not challenging them in anyway, I am genuinely interested.
