Why in the black community we sometimes struggle with having healthy conversations about obesity?

Obesity can cause numerous of health complications such as diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, heart disease, sleep apnea (breathing randomly stops throughout the night, which can lead to death), fatty liver, osteoarthritis, kidney disease, etc.

These are serious health concerns that should be taken seriously and never avoided, if you care about yourself you'd take heed to these conversations instead of catching an attitude (which is an indicator of denial) and hiding behind a smile while holding a spoon.

If you're happy and satisfied with the possibilities of gaining health conditions from obesity with no care whatsoever, then something is mentally wrong with you, your brain isn't clicking right and you should talk to somebody.

*Peace & Blessings*
Because black women are the most obese group of people in the country, but they are hypersensitive about ANY criticism so any discussion on obesity immediately gets tagged as "anti-black women" and ultimately becomes unproductive.

I hate how the new spin is “you can’t tell how healthy someone is by their weight”
Yea technically a person with a six pack could have stage 4 cancer but that shyt is a diversion from the scientific FACT that being obese raises health risks exponentially
Hate to take it there but I think the recent censorship in the black community about this is because it’s mostly affecting black women. I saw a stat that said something like 50-60% of adult black women are obese.

Its actually 80%.

It doesn't help that black women choose to rock hairstyles that are incompatible with physical activity

What this

Some bullshyt. :unimpressed:

take those cameras away and go to everybody in that community's house and bring them hummus, baked fish, kale chips, some couscous and almond milk and bet you get cussed the fukk out.

black folks just don't eat like that, period. I can't speak for what negroes in the suburbs who have white friends that eat like that do, but where I'm from, we just don't eat like that :manny:

You didn't provide any examples on how to curtail any of this. You shouted and left. Maybe some examples would help people struggling.

I'm 190 and I'm in the gym most of the week, this doesn't apply to me, furthermore BMI don't match the composition of Black bodies which has been shown, it's a general and inaccurate measure.

Plus there are a lot of out of shape and fat doctors, which should let you know there's a point where you shouldn't listen to them. But I digress.

It's just weird you'd get on a soapbox decrying obesity, while breaking the back of a chubby woman every night.

I've hit chubbier women, but the one thing I did was never shout out my displeasure with their weight in some holier-than-thou mindset. But I'll leave it there. Peace to you also.

Ole shut up dude, my girl isn't fat and I can prove that. I already know that you and your buddies don't care about yourself so you'll look for anything to ignore the reality of obesity. .

North Jersey but I miss Cali :sadcam:
Another poor misconception. We do have access to healthy food. Sounds like some of y'all ain't never tried to go on a diet

Do you know what people eat to lose weight? Chicken, eggs, Rice, oatmeal, pasta, and vegetables. All that shyt is cheap.

Ok.. keep thinking that. You act like you've visited every black community in the united states. I grew up in one.

A single mother with multiple mouths to feed, has to buy shyt that will last.

Pasta and rice is carb heavy by the way.

Most of the kids in the hood that aren't obese go without food for long stretches.

And then there's the free lunch programs across the nation, and we all know a lot of that shyt ain't healthy, and even if it were accessible, when left up to choose, kids will always choose taste over health.

Almond milk, couscous, hummus? There are healthy alternatives that are good tasting

hell, even when I get on my soul food shyt, collards, cabbage, fish are not that bad

all those international foods you named depend on exposure, etc.

one thing I will say is that it seems fewer people are eating fast food daily. I also wonder how the latest cuts to food stamps recipients will affect this issue.

Some kids are eating nothing but ramen when they get home.

Uhh yeah, and everything I listed is cheap. You can pick up a pack of 5 chicken thighs for $2.50 a pack in a majority of grocery stores.
Oatmeal is cheap as hell, feeds a lot of people, and gets you full. And there's nothing wrong with rice, bodybuilders eat it all the time.

Simple fact is, obesity runs amok in the black community. For every malnourished child you point out, I can point out 5 overweight adults.

50%, 65%, 80%. Regardless it's too high. Yet you got posters saying we don't have access to food.

If we had no access to food we wouldn't be obese

Breh, you do know that those chicken thighs are cheap for a reason right? Preservatives and other unnatural chemicals are pumped into that meat.

And again, you got parents trying to feed kids. Ain't nobody eating oatmeal every day.

You're basically expecting everyone to eat like robots. Sugary/carb based foods are also addictive. You can't go cold Turkey.

Even if they put a whole foods in a random good spot, people probably wouldn't go. The damage has already been done. People have been conditioned to eat a certain what for generations.
