There is a formula. That one was just a basic formula for Soul at it's beginnings. It's basically black gospel (holiness and pentecostal style) music, secularized through Jazz and Blues chords/influences.

Exactly. I was thinking the same thing about Sam Smith getting heavy play on Urban Stations. It was always awkward how you'd hear a song like Latch or Hello, and then hear "F up some Commas!!!", or hearing some Young Dolph afterwards.

pop stations = top 40 ie popular cuts, why would they play artists like tyrese who aren't charting, tyrese isn't getting play from urban format and the type of music he makes isn't even getting spins from what would normally be the audience for r&b. only a segment of black women 28-44 heard that album, bet.
