Obviously, black people fukk with Adele and are requesting the song. Coli militants don't represent the black populace at large.
But black people don't make up the majority of urban radio audiences and what radio station really operates off of song requests though? hasn't been that way since the 90s. I used to work in radio, college radio, and do mixshows. Had three shows. In 2002. 2008-2009.

You have to play bin cuts and favorites. It's worse when you get to the majors. No requests. It all operates off of sales and payola. You can blame the telecommunications act of 1996 for that.

And why are we militants for pointing out the obvious? This has been a thing since the days of Elvis and Pat Boone. Nothing new under the sun.

Same reason why Eminem was able to get play on rock stations and rap stations when he came out. Ie Whiteness.

No. There is a difference. Eminem was zero % rock and he got played on rock stations only because he was white, whereas Adele and similar types are clearly R&B/Soul/Funk/Disco/Blues rooted sothere is justification for being played on black radio.

Black people who like adele are sad as fukk to me.

I disagree

Black people who claim people like Sam Smith and Adele do black music better need to get the fukk out of my face. Or say they do real R&B.

You have a point but it depends on who they're comparing them to. If it's to shyt like Chris Brown? I agree with them. If we're talking Jill Scott vs Adele? Give me Jill Scott. Jill is clearly a more diverse/better singer.

Black women who worship Adele come off as pathetic to me...

I haven't seen any black woman worship Adele. They might listen to her music but that's where it stops.

when Adele is basically ripping y'all off. Shows how much black people value whiteness over their own...everything.

She's clearly acknowledges her debt to black music and the black singers that influenced her style. Im not gonna down her because white fans are making her sell a ton:beli:

Isn't Adele music technically R&B? If so I don't the issue here, Timberlake and Thicke have been getting play on Black stations for years now.

The difference between them and Adele is that they had music that catered to R&B and Hip Hop audiences. Them singing over Timbaland and Pharrell beats got them play on Hip Hop and R&B stations. Featuring T.I. and Jay Z on their songs didn't hurt either. Adele doesn't make music that sounds like R&B or Hip Hop. Like someone said earlier, it's her voice that's getting her the play on R&B and Hip Hop stations.

Hot 97 is garbage now.

Basically it's just trap, EDM mixshows on friday, maybe some bachatta and reggaeton for my boriquas...but as a hip-hop station it's done. Been done.

Sirius Satellite Radio is where it's at, i don't have it but i know somebody who does and they play WAY better music than all of these radio stations combined. they got channels from each era like the 80's 90's and the 2000's

I love how everybody tries to keep an Open Mind and thoroughly engage in honest debates.

But how much longer with the psyche games?

Let's not pretend that it has everything to do with her voice :pachaha:.. That's ridiculous. So much more than what meets the surface on that

The writing was written on the wall for the hip hop format of hot 97 years ago.....when i heard FunkMaster Flex drop Lady Gaga "pokerface" and that group LMFAO "everyday im shuffling" in the mix

:snoop:

and keep in mind i said "HIP HOP FORMAT"..cause any of the of the OLD HEADS of NYC like myself remember when HOT 97 use to be a CHR (contemporary hit radio) pop station back before 1993 when Funk Flex got hired by this dude...the "FATHER OF HOT 97"....mr. steve smith of emmis broadcasting :

biosteve.jpg

so as you can see.....THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR DECADES, and it has more to do with LACK OF BLACK OWNERSHIP AND EMPOWERMENT as opposed to CUTLURE AND MUSICAL TASTES.....

Chuck D. tried to warn us back in the 90's ....see this what comes along with Gentrification..your VOICE becomes "diversified"....

Only black radio station in the city
Programmed by a sucker in a suit
Slick back hair he don't even live here
Raps the number one pick so I draft it
I don't care about all the other demographics

I have nothing against Adele or any of those artists. It's the fans.

We in the gentrification era of black music right now.

Our services are no longer needed.

This is what happens when you have to base everything on a sound, which anybody can replicate.

Adele, Sam Smith, Ed Sheeran, Bieber, Diplo, all make a killing cause of their fans...who love black music but don't feel the same way about black people. So now they have artists they can relate too. Same with all of these trap EDM guys like RL Grime and Bro Safari.

It already happened to house music and techno in the 90s. Paul Oakenfold was criticized by Derrick May and Juan Atkins for taking the sound and showcasing it to larger audiences when he went on tour with U2 in 1991.

As much as I love Daft Punk, I'm not gonna pretend like their career wasn't based off of jacking black ghetto house DJs like Paul Johnson and DJ Funk from Chicago. But atleast they gave them credit and put them on to audiences that never heard of those people before. Hence the reason why they barely showed themselves in pictures and donned the robot costumes. If people knew Daft Punk was two white guys from Paris from the jump, they wouldn't of had the same effect.

In a perfect world artists of all races should and would get the same appeal and respect, but that's not happening especially in North America where money precedes the art of music.

They do but it's the same thing too. Same catalogue, same artists, same format... It's just a "deluxe version" of FM Radio. Shade45 plays the same songs Hot97 and everyone else plays.

I wanna say satellite radio is a joke but I guess it beats regular radio when you've burnt out on the music on your phone

Agree, SiriusXM is where you can get whatever you want. I haven't listened to regular radio, outside of a rental car without Sirius, in over 10 years...

doesn't she make R&B though? what exact genre is her music? pop? she basically makes soul music, not like the original soul singers but it's in that similar category. i don't even listen to her but that's what it sounds like to me :yeshrug:

Adele is Soul in the original sense. The problem is most people have a skewed perception of what Soul is because they've been listening to modern R&B. It's like saying Sam Cooke wasn't Soul because he didn't sound like James Brown.

for example @ 1:23

"sam cooke was one of the first to make the transition from Gospel to POP MUSIC but they called it R&B and then Soul because he was AfroAmerican (black)"

Quoting so everybody can read this.

But the problem is, even black people are finding it easier to relate to these white artists. Black people praising that Alyssa (spellcheck) Cara song "Here" like if its some breakthrough R&B track.

I listened to it, sounds like some teen angst that I, as a 28 year old with a car, would never experience in my life.

I bet if she was black, it would just be another song tho :mjpls:

Hey, middle aged out of shape white women need someone they can relate too...Adele fills that void.
They like her cause she's "real". She's repping the "Stop body shaming" generation of women.

Let's be honest. There was only so long they could take someone like Beyonce....who looked better than them, had a better life, has a more successful husband, dominating the game.

Again though, Beyonce at the end of the day will always be black...and those same audiences will always feel some type of way about that no matter how much they try to supress it and act like that isn't the case.
