It's only for marketing purposes
Why isnt all rap marketed as popular music then, why separate by category?

Hip Hop is crossover music, now specifically designed to be "pop" music to maximize profit and exposure.

The best representation of "pop" is the top 40 and billboard top 100. Have you ever looked atthose charts? The music on them comes from the main core genres

Rap does debut on top 40/billboard 100
When it is added/played/requested/marketed on those Radio formats. The label dictates this.

Rap music never started as or wanted to be "pop" music.

It became 'pop' due to the rebellious overtones and overall rejection of conservative critics who bashed the music as loud, obscene, and gibberish, which actually shed light, created a curiosity in the general public in turn lead to its outbreak and embracement.

These same critics never would have thought that this hood, street music would creep over into their acclaimed, almighty, popular music category.

I truly believe some of these dudes HATE havin a good time.

Maybe guys do like to have a good time, but they dont log onto rap forums to stan shytty music? OP made this thread because he thinks BBTM is better than the trilogy (it isn't) and that views is a rap album (it isn't). Im pretty sure guys can have a good time and still think Trilogy > BBTM and that Views is average as fukk. Y'all be trying to make it about "going outside" and "having a good time" when reality a lot of the music is trash.

i heard YG "Twist My Fingaz" in the club plenty. People had a good time to this song. It is corny? No. It's it shytty pop song? No. It's just a GOOD RECORD. YG made plenty of club songs without having to do some sell out sounding gay shyt.

Jay-Z was always good at doing both serious songs and party songs.

A lot of artists just make shytty records to chase hits and thats just the truth of it. Y'all can keep running with this "y'all dont like Weeknd Max Martin fluff joints because y'all dont go outside" Nah, nikkas do go outside, they just dont go back into the house and play that weak shyt, or go into rap forums to have discussions about it every day.

A lot of the songs i diss on here, I be actin a fool when that shyt comes on in the club.

Im pretty sure a lot of guys here could say the same breh. I dont see why nikkas expect guys who gravitate to rap forums to have rave reviews about cookie cutter radio joints. They serve there purpose for what they are but thats it

pop music isn't bad a lot of nikkas just make shytty pop music, and "having fun" isn't a cover up for being a fan of shytty pop music and playing that shyt in the crib on full blast :scust::mjlol:

However, Nelly and LL have appeared on Pop charts..though now I'm sure you'll play the "Marketing plan" card.
Nelly was aiming for the pop charts..Hell yes.

All his singles where clubs tracks.

He's in the generation of rappers who learned from the Puffy school of rap marketing.

LL fell into the "pop" demo by happenstance and cultural convenience.

He was considered a safe negro.

Compared to like..
...lets say..Eazy E and NWA..

marketing purposes because "pop" was a lowkey way to refer to music coming from white people. To use Sam Cooke for example

for example @ 1:23

"sam cooke was one of the first to make the transition from Gospel to POP MUSIC but they called it R&B and then Soul because he was AfroAmerican (black)"

true but they were wrong because if you know history the of "black" music in america, it was destined for the same thing to happen with rap the same way the original r&b crossed over and became "rock n roll".

Sales dont make pop. Conforming does. Jadas why crossed over he never went pop. Hip hop is not pop, its rebellion. Same as rocc was when it was pure. Why is it hard to believe its nikkas riding to grimey shyt? I grew up gang bamgin n hustlin I dont relate to simps cryin over hoes. Im much more westside gunn n conway than florida, why is that frowned upon. I pull up on hoes wit roc marciano playin while i smoke an l. We different

That was kind of an anomaly in my opinion.

It just so happened to have an unintentionally catchy hook (cool like that, slick like that, etc..)

Think of any legend in both rap and rock and usually their music wasn't made to be catchy and accessible. The music usually lacks nuance and the connection you have with the music is usually surface level, hence you have the bandwagon fan base that's always looking for the next face prop while the previous dude is quickly forgotten and if not laughed at
