How long have they had this information?
Has it been sold?
Have the released these exploits so companies can address them?

You're looking at it wrong. People are not suddenly outraged about this news. This is a continuation of outrage from improprieties of our government illegally creating a massive surveillance state over the past few decades. Its really sad that your post is dismissive and it seems like you've given up and just accepted this new status quo of government intrusion. Its NOT ok for our government to be doing this. Its literally against our Constitution.

America has only in the past maybe decade become computer literate. Before that, most people had no idea what phishing, hacking, etc were. When news broke of the NSA having a secret listening room inside of AT&T's building, most people didn't care. They had no idea what that meant or what they were capable of. This was more than a decade ago and the technological climate was very different. Today, our country is much more literate in technology and we are now fully aware of the improprieties of our government. If you tried to make a claim a decade ago that the NSA was illegally spying on Americans, you would be a conspiracy theorist. Most people wouldn't even understand your claim and evidence would be nearly impossible to attain. If you made it up to the courts, the feds would drop "national security" on the case and it would be dismissed. Today, we HAVE the leaks. We HAVE the evidence. We HAVE the resources and knowledge to understand what is really going on. They've desensitized our society into giving up our liberties for temporary security and thats not a sound policy.
