you dont need to run anything to test your speed just go to

http://www.speedtest.net/ and click begin test

Honestly there could be a couple of things going on :

how big is your house? where is your router located at in comparison with your ps3 /computer, is it close or far to these things?

do you run any programs to download music or videos? those are magnets for malware

a router COULD be a issue but am guessing your have malware issues

lately i been pushing people away from routers and closer to powerline adapters, that way you can get FULL speeds like if plugged in directly to your Ethernet

you don't gotta run nothing with speed test.
it just sends an info packet back and forth.

just get the programs i said.
install and run them, then reboot and profit.

You shouldn't have to download any software to test your internet speed. Go to speedtest.net or testmy.net. I like testmy.net because it has a better test and doesn't use Flash at all.

yeah, i ain't never heard of "speedypc".
throw that shyt in the bushes and go with what me and Smooth3d say.

Ok guys, here are my results :flabbynsick: :

Ping: 41ms, Download Speed: 0.03mbps, and upload speed: 0.16mbps

I've been waiting for some powerline adapters to come down in price. Will probably jump on this

Get an ethernet cable and eliminate the router so you'll be Wall -> Modem -> Computer. This will allow you to eliminate the router as the problem.

One thing to consider: if you/your mom is paying for slow ass internet (i.e. 3Mb) and you're in a heavily populated area, you're probably going to see speed drops during peak hours. Happens to me too, but my drops are down to like 30Mb from 50+ :heh:

you need a known good PC or laptop straight out of the modem bypassing the router. as a cable tech if i had Comcast internet and i was pulling speeds like that with a known good PC straight from the modem i'd call them up and schedule a service call. there's no way you should be getting sub 1 meg speeds on cable internet.

the problem is if you call Comcast and the issue is the wiring in your house you're likely gonna be billed for whatever the tech has to fix. Comcast doesn't own the cable wiring in your house, you do so you're responsible for it. if you got a bad drop coming to your house from the tap or there's signal issues out of the tap that's different or if the modem is bad that's different but if they come in your house and find shyt wiring or crappy splitters you're gonna get billed.

most of the time when i go to somebody's house and they're getting speeds that slow its because they have shyt wiring and gold splitters and bad fittings on the cable letting noise get into the system and that noise is killing their speeds. either that or they got a PC from the early to mid 2000s with Windows XP on it and it isn't capable of pulling great speeds.

something is using your bandwidth and you need to get rid of it.

the scans should sort it all out.
