It’s hard to get into a lot of this new shyt but let me try to post some of my “personal classics” over the past few years

I could post a bunch of Miguel songs but I won’t.. he’s one of my favorites

they came out in the wrong era. I feel like the Hive Mind album would’ve been one of the biggest in r&b if it came out a few years before it did.

I love Jillian Hervey(Lion Babe) :yeshrug: I wish she was one of the biggest stars in music but it is what it is.

I mean even this album was great. They didn’t try all hard to fit in with the current sound and stuff and kept it grown folks. I just think people forget about or don’t even know all this great music exists. I’ll just leave the post here

I'm excited to see what this brother's album will sound like. Artist on Adrian Younge's Linear Labs label

Everyone says that but the great shyt flops
This! The Trap movement is STRONG

The producers of today can barely read unless it is for a vape ingredient. But making real music built on music theory and not chopping up 90s samples? Nah...

R&B is trash in 2020
Nah, folks ain't supportin' the better producers.

The labels push what people want. If they wanted real rnb they would market it.

I think it's reversed. Labels push what they want heard, folks pick from it what they like, then labels push more of it.

Just want more subtlety in slower music/rnb

you used to be able to play music in front of kids and they have no idea what any of it truly meant...now the rnb got more bleeps than “hip hop”

creaming down ya legs, ima eff you to sleep, etc...

not complaining, i know it’s out there, but I miss it just being a part of mainstream. Turning on the radio and hearing Jodeci or 112 was awesome. Not that raunchy stuff that I get damn near second hand embarrassment playing with my lady...she like the sweeter side of things

Devin Morrison is my favorite of the new bunch because you can tell he was raised in the church with the harmonies and melodies he comes up with.

The loss in quality of music coincides with people starting to download music for free. If you aren't willing to start purchasing albums/hitting shows on the regular don't cry about the quality of music. People love to sit back and cry about quality but aren't buying shyt. Really?

Exactly. The "labels" react to what the market desires.

The "soul" culture of musicianship, coming out the black church and the entire community, began dying over 30 years ago. That's when black bands and groups started to fade.

Meanwhile, 50/60 years ago, the community was literally exploding with rich talent and creativity.

Berry Gordy simply captured in his company what was already happening around him everyday.

The black church was the home for all quality singers. Nowadays, the mamas go to the club Saturday nights and wake up late Sunday Mornings, and forego church. The kids dont know anything about singing in the chrior or honing their voices.
