Jason kidd was the better rebounder/defender while steve nash had very little impact in these two areas.Steve nash was so bad on defense that shawn marion had to periodically guard the opposing teams pg.

This is my last post on this topic
I see people are still saying this dumb shyt. :russ:

nash's offensive prowess is so high he turns multiple offenses into top 1 in the league. The fact that he couldn't beat a GOAT-tier coach, PF, and one of the best franchises in modern-day history isn't an indictment on him because Kidd couldn't beat them either.

San Antonio currently has a DRTG which is +8.3 relative to league average

That's equal to the 1993 Knicks and around ranked 7th. What's more impressive?

Tim Duncan was a part of a better ranked defense. His 2004 Spurs were +8.8 which would be the 3rd greatest ever (going by estimated possessions for the pre-70s.)

If only accounting for actual possessions rather than entirely estimated, the Top 5 defenses ever were:

1. 2004 San Antonio Spurs - (+8.8)
2. 2008 Boston Celtics - (+8.5)
3a. 1993 New York Knicks - (+8.3)
3b. 2016 San Antonio Spurs - (+8.3)
5. 1994 New York Knicks - (+8.0)

Now on the opposite spectrum,

the Warriors have an ORTG of 114.5 which is +8.4 above the league average.

That wouldn't be the GOAT offense either. That title belongs to the 2004 Dallas Mavericks led by Steve Nash and Dirk Nowitzki. The Warriors would be tied for 2nd with...you guessed it, the 2005 Phoenix Suns led by Steve Nash.

Top 5 offenses ever
1. 2004 Dallas Mavericks - (+9.2)
2a. 2005 Phoenix Suns - (+8.4)

2b. 2016 Golden State Warriors - (+8.4)
4a. 1997 Chicago Bulls - (+7.7)
4b. 2002 Dallas Mavericks - (+7.7)
4c. 2010 Phoenix Suns - (+7.7)

Bolded = teams Steve Nash was on

IM not really invested in this argument but i do marvel at Nash leading a team with Raja Bell,Kurt Thomas,Marion,Boris Diaw,Tim Thomas to 54 wins in the 05-06 season...I know people like to shyt on him for the back to back MVPs but id argue the second one he deserved...thats a terrible starting lineup on paper.

Not only did he lead that team to 54 wins and a WCF appearance, but the offense he led was the 10th best of all time (regular season and postseason combined), up to that point. It pretty much dispels the myth that he needed great scorers around him to run a great offense.

He's severely underrated on here and we all know why :mjpls:

If you're playing an up-tempo offense, and need your guard to score then it's Nash.

If you're playing a slower paced offense, and you have other guys who can score, it's J Kidd.

You also get the benefit of Kidd's defense, compared to Nash's non defense. So if you're up against a squad with a scoring pg, you want Kidd on him, not Nash.

It's closer than some think, but the team makeup is key here. Nash is obviously MVP caliber in a Dantoni type offense.

Also, Nash got better when the league got more stringent on hand checking and physicality. Kidd was bigger and stronger, so you couldn't bully him around like that.

This makes no sense. If you're playing slow offense, then the better half court scorer is even more valuable - Nash. You'd want the terrible scorer in an uptempo, fast break dominant team.

Except Nash dominates that too.
