SCC was actually a popular group in the early 90s. I don’t think people on here realize how popular they were in the streets, and they had national exposure years before Mobb Deep, specifically if you had the Box. I realize region comes in to play here. If you lived in a region that bumped west coast music, SCC definitely got play. I just can’t let you play them like these nyggas are trash c-list nyggas when they worked with Spice 1, Treach, Ice T, 2pac, etc.

I‘m not accusing Mobb Deep of stealing their names. However, I DO believe it’s clear that SCC had those names first. SCC is comprised of several members. If you check any SCC interview, they all say the group formed in 87-88. Them nyggas are older then Mobb Deep.

In Addition, there are TWO Havoc’s and TWO Prodigy’s in SCC lol. You got Havocc tha Mouthpiece, Havikk the Rhime Son, Big Prodeje, and Young Prodeje.

Big Prodeje released the Prodigal Son in 1990.

I’m definitely more of a Mobb Deep fan, but trying to diminish SCC as just some c list nobodies over some name shyt is just lame.

Yep, I still have their first cassette and both Havoc's give their shoutouts in the booklet

I guess Biggie bit this cac too :troll:

Biggie smalls was a common nick name. It's not like having multiple Havikk and Prodejes in the same group

The fact that the Source didn’t mention anything about SCC in the unsigned hype column for Mobb in July 91 proves unquestionably that super knowledgeable East Coast heads in early 91 had no idea who SCC was. Imagine what the Source would have said if the Poetical Prophets were named Eazy E and Ice Cube :dead:

The source was a super biased magazine, real educated rap fans got their info from Murder Dog magazine

Murder Dog didn’t exist in 91.
Are you claiming that the people who worked at the Source in 91 weren’t representative of knowledgeable East Coast fans? Which is relevant to whether Mobb would have known about SCC at the time.

I fukked with SCC, not crazy but they had some dope music/videos. I knew their names were Havok & Prodeje. But we're talking 93-94 here, and while I knew Mobb Deep, I didn't find out their names until late '94. I had no clue there were 2 sets with the same name in the group. Hell, all I knew were there was some music as "Havok & Prodeje of SCC".

Even with all of the testimonials here, all evidence points to coincidence.

As someone that works in HR/Payroll, the amount of people with the same names I come across ridiculous. Then some of them be having the same middle name, making it more confusing.

Lmao yall really debating this hard. Havoc and Prodigy are both generic ass names. It is a great coincidence that 2 groups who decided to use generic names as individuals ended up both having the same combination... but that is all it is... a wild coincidence. The names aren't dope or special enough to have been wanted to be bitten anyway! Was Mobb as kids in 1991 jamming SCC South Central Madness album, and fans enough to even know the group members' names? And then big enough fans to want to jack their names? Highly highly unlikely. Think of how many random groups have rappers named Trife.. or Storm.. or some other generic ass shyt that your average person is gonna come up with when trying to figure out a name, especially in the early days. Then imagine it easily could be 2 groups out there that both have a Trife AND a Storm in their crew... Now I am just using those names as an example.. and before anyone says those names aren't overused... well off top there was a random NY indie duo called Trife & D-Mob, then theres Trife of Junior Mafia... then theres Trife from Theodore Unit... Storm from 2Pac's camp... underground DC rapper Storm the Unpredictable... Storm from indie Wu affiliated group Soul Kid Klik... etc. Yes mostly obscure references but just showing you how easy it is to have generic names like that get used by multiple people... and none of them BIT off each other... I just love how folks are like "Nahh SCC was gettin play on The Box and had records out so Mobb DEFINITELY knew they had a Havoc and Prodigy in their group and decided to steal their names bro"... So Mobb heard SCC in 91 (did South Central Madness come out in early 91 or late 91?) and rushed to make a demo for Unsigned Hype the same year, using their names? And it was just one big bite and not a coincidence? Stop it.

stuck in our ways jus like the east were...

we didnt give a fukk really about nas..until the beef

didnt give a shyt bout j until the beef..

we fukked with biggie.. n bad boy...

then like u said spice eiht n ice

russell simmons would have known it was some east coast nikkas when he came to the west for the scc

dj premier and guru was both there...it was said what happen when they was about to get into it... it was unbias..

the squashed it that day ... smoked out n went on
More a story of how ignorant you were in your own little world.

Doesn't mean everyone relates.

dj premier and guru were unbias, you obviously are not. so you are pushing a biased perspective about the name origin? what is even the point of hearing you then? you don't care about the truth just your coastal bias.

I’m from the Bay. I don’t remember any of their songs getting radio play or any of their videos. I’m not downplaying them, but they clearly weren’t an A level West Coast group in the 90s. I’m not sure, but I don’t even think they broke through nationwide until they signed to Def Jam.
If you want to argue they were B level as opposed to C level I’m not gonna fight you on that.
The odds that Mobb Deep knew who they were before July 91 are essentially negligible.

Most of their music is pretty forgettable and really cliche of all of the west coast sounds/trends of that era. However, they somehow managed to put together a borderline classic album with N Gatz We Trust. I suggest you check out that album.
