the only thing I know about Burma came from the documentary Burma VJ: Reporting from a closed country

seemed pretty conservative :patrice:

she is working as an educational advisor of some sort

she was pretty cool too. has a doctorate but taught 1st grade

She's pretty brave to head there

United to End Genocide completed a four week fact-finding mission to Burma on March 16, 2014. What we discovered was alarming. Nowhere in the world are there more known precursors to genocide than in Burma today. Hundreds have been killed with a death toll mounting daily, tens of thousands have fled under the most hazardous conditions, and 140,000 have been forced into horrible, overcrowded camps where they face severe restrictions and are denied basic necessities including medical care.

It's not so much about affordable housing as it is a completely different type of slower paced life. There's a reason America is the most depressed country in the world :to:
Theres a few reasons. Most of them are due to financial stress... i.e. living in a depressed or expensive area

There are other sides to the game too. For all the shyt people give America, I think u underestimate the impact of culture. People have roots here. People are intertwined with American culture. Not too many brehs can walk away from everything they know to such an extreme degree.

Dont get me wrong, I think people should move around and explore new places. Moving out of NYC has been the best move of my life by far. But a whole new country? Living on $1200/mo? What about healthcare? What about family? Etc etc.

Couple of things breh, that's not entirely true about having to work more hours, my friend has been in the Southeast pacific for years now and on average he works 25-30 hours a week as a teacher, those are the hours he's required to be at the academy he teaches at. This hasn't changed for him from Indonesia to where he is now in Malaysia.

Also, about renting those two places I posted are in the cities, not on the outskirts but actually in the cities, the places outside of the city are much cheaper as a result. And it's not that difficult to rent, I was in Brazil and there was a roadblock to renting which would have been the fiador insurance, but since the place was so cheap I paid all 6 months right up front to get around it :yeshrug: If you have the money for 6 months worth of rent to just lay out there upfront, you won't have any problems getting a place and realistically anyone thinking about living abroad should be saving up to begin with.

As for communication, people in South America generally use WhatsApp to get around that issue breh.

Yea thats exactly what i said, yea you will be at the school or 25-30 hours but yea can easily add an extra 10-15 hours to that per week worth of prep/grading time ,for your second point that's exactly why recommended go overseas with money in the bank , and whatsapp is cool and all to send messages and what not but for everyday calls / the type of mobile phone service were used to here those emerging markets are sketchy, honestly only reason i bring it up is because as Americans cell phone are so much a part of our daily lives.

My grandfather was a boss business man. When he passed away in 2010, he left behind properties in Somalia

It's a gold mine. My father has fixed up the property the Egyptians used as their Embassy from 1973-1994

And now it's a hotel with suitors (Chinese) wanting to book rooms months in advance :leon:

The US is a sinking ship brehs

Imma head to Mogadishu soon, lemme know if you want to head out there. I'll have my pops security get you

The country breh, as a whole the US is the :sadcam: champion of the world, the reasons don't change the results. Also, poorer countries around the world are typically happier than wealthier ones, Mo money mo problems.

Culture is overrated, once you've become acclimated to a new area the only thing that will really draw you back is your family. Family is the only thing that should really discourage people from moving, but if you're going to move 1000 miles away from home staying within the country what difference does another 3000 miles make? You're not going to be able to see your family but a few times a year to begin with.

You ask about healthcare as though Americans don't go broke left and right from health problems, if that were really important to you why not move to Germany and become a citizen? Living on $1200 a month is more than possible, considering the people in these countries are living on $700 a month, you only see the total and not realize that everything except clothing is cheaper by a huge margin.

IDK breh u seem eager to dump on/give up on the US at any given opportunity.

U mean to tell me if u get cancer in somewhere like Colombia u are gonna be able to get cured for cheap? U do realize people from Europe fly back to the US to get treatment for shyt like cancer, correct?

And culture is hardly overrated. Cultural barriers and influence is why places like Chinatown and other immigrant enclaves exist. Its not realistic to expect someone to completely give up everything they know when they move somewhere. And that 3000 miles becomes a lot harder to traverse if you are only living on $1200 a month. Plane tickets aren't cheaper in other countries breh. Neither is gasoline for that matter.

The US is what u make of it. If u choose to live a simple lifestyle below your means you can have financial freedom making an average salary. If u keep active and eat good foods u can stay right and have a low health maintenance cost. Etc. U are low key selling wolf tickets to try and scare brehs to leave the US and follow in ur footsteps without really presenting things either fully or honestly IMO. Like I said I have people abroad, I know the ins and outs too, shyt is nowhere near as gravy as u make it out to be. If it were people from the countries u are mentioning wouldn't be trying to come here. I have people all over the world on that teach English shyt... its cool... but most of em cant wait to come back. Why do u think that is?

Never been, my name is based off Goya Maltas :russ:

I think @Idaeo was going to Malta, you should ask him.

How many times have you been asked that?

I actually switched up my travel plans. Found out about a big event in Zurich, so I'm headed there instead
