My only advice to these younger brehs is TAKE YOUR TIME. I mean that with everything. Don't rush through school. Don't rush into serious relationships. Don't rush into job opportunities. For the longest time I thought I was a loser because I took my time through school, I changed majors, I didn't have many relationships that lasted past a few months..

All my friends started settling down around 24-25, settled into their careers (or dead end jobs basically) and they all got married and had kids. I was like :wow: what's wrong with me but now I'm happy it took so long to find myself because I'm gonna be 30 but I have NOTHING that is tying me down. I'm not in debt. I don't have kids. I'm not married. And I like it. Some people still try to shame me into thinking I'm doing it wrong but fukk that, I'll do all that shyt when I'm good and ready. I was with this girl this past year I thought things were headed in that direction but about six months in I noticed a lot of questionable shyt, she wasn't the person I thought and it all went to hell. It hurt in the moment but I'm good. I'm not saying like good things come to those who wait or that type of shyt I'm just sayin' there's no reason to be rushing. You are in the prime of your life. Enjoy it.

next time make up a reference of a small company and have a friend verify for you :yeshrug: say you were the accountant of a startup that went under and give your friend's number as a reference. You have to be creative to get your foot in the door. If you CAN do the job and are qualified other than experience then you gotta do what you gotta do to get ahead.

Worst case scenario you don't get the job...same position you were in anyway.
Here's one:

Don't lie on job applications and interviews for ACCOUNTING FIRMS :comeon:

To those who finished school and not working or not making 6 digits..

The world doesnt owe you a thing and it doesnt owe you a job making 6 digits. In the early 00s thats how the world made things seem and its not true.. I say this because i had a boy who didnt want to take lesser jobs becuase he felt that since he went to school and xyz... he deserved a job making abc and it wasnt happening and he got depressed.
Very true. There is NO ENTITLEMENT to a big paying job. Some of us...MOST OF US need to pay dues in some way.

Yep, patience is everything.

And rushing, you gotta ask yourself why you so desperate? Whether its money, love, or dreams.

I don't listen to anyone older than me :yeshrug:

I would say...

Listen to people ur age who are making moves and network w them.

Then listen to young nikkas to steal their innovative ideas....

You 90s babies are madd creative:lolbron:

This may come off wrong but I dont listen to anybody.. Its my decision and my choice. I may value your opinion and your experience but its my decision to make...

Why not? I'm not saying that you need to lie about your degree, but if you're trying to get an entry level job and they want 5 years experience what are you supposed to do? :dahell:

Life isn't always about "listening to your parents and eating your vegetables" sometimes you have to give yourself a shot. How else is this young breh supposed to get his foot in the door when all of the "foot in the door" opportunities are saying that you need 5 years of experience. Breh could be 24 with a degree and is expected to have done 5 years of accounting work just to bring mail to the other accountants and make copies? :camby:

I do :salute: for most of your other posts though :ehh:

Dont lie because I know soembody who took a "leave of absence" from his city job.... tried to get a job in ct. The new job called to verify some things and then he had to choose.... return from your leave or quit and take the new job.

Plus when/if they call to verify employee and you didnt do any of that... it'll make you look bad

I say this because i had a boy who didnt want to take lesser jobs becuase he felt that since he went to school and xyz... he deserved a job making abc and it wasnt happening and he got depressed.

When i entered the workforce in 95 i was glad to take the entry level job at 18k a year...
When i was layed off in 2002 and didnt find a job until 1 year later... Yes it was less but i was glad to be working and ultimately it was more since it was closer to home, less gas money, less car wear and tear, etc..

You gotta sometimes take the lesser job just to get your foot in the door. once you're in keep checking the job listing board.

My wife got pregnant when i got layed off and it hurt me that throughout the entire pregnancy i didnt have a job.. i was paying my mortgage using unemployment...

Cosign 100%. never throw an opportunity in the bushes because it seems like something you're over qualified for. My pops came to this country with a masters in engineering and the best he could come up with to feed the family was a $10/hour drafting job and selling vacuums door to door. But he made it work out of necessity. Went back to school, got another graduate degree and got a legit job.

We all have personal anecdotes (I personally helped a friend get a job that he was qualified for...every case is different)

Notice I mention in my post "If you CAN do the job"...I would never tell a breh to bold face lie on his application and make up a degree or a qualification. But if you can prove that you have the same skills as someone else for an entry level job...and the alternative is NOT getting the job, then I say go for it. What do you have to lose?

If my advice is bad (I'm not perfect) then what do you suggest someone in the breh's situation? How do you get a job if they are hiring people who already have experience you can't get your foot in the door?

I feel you.. thats cool. I mean I have a company and had people say they worked for me ( well they did but not like that) ..
It's just a matter of dont embelish your abilities to much...

On interviews be humble... I made the mistake on 1 job interview 15 years ago of acknowledging I knew something and proceedign to talk about it.. I think i knew more than the interviewer because their faces said it all and plus i didnt get a call back ... or maybe its because i was black and i knew so much...

Breh this isn't fukkin target. An accounting firm WILL VERIFY shyt. And check CPA continuing education. Even with LinkedIn and others in 2015 you can't just slap some shyt on a resume with a figazi reference
